As a customer of Yangtze for well over 60 years I feel that I must write about my extreme disappointment with this restaurant. After purchasing a Birthday dinner of over $125 last night and looking at the bill because it seemed rediculously high - I noticed a $17 charge for 4 won ton soups and remembered to mention to the waiter to ensure that the noodles were included in the bag. The waiter said sure and proceeded to the back. When he returned he advised that there would be an additional charge of $2.75 for noodles. Shocked - I asked if he was kidding - I had just spent over $125 on food and purchased 4 soups and noodles are always included with soup ? He then advised me to speak to the manager which I proceeded to do. The manager was very insistent that they do NOT include noodles with soup as they would be “losing money” to do so. I laughed as this seemed to be a rediculous statement and inquired as to why noodles are included with soup when eating in the restaurant - he explained that they do include them when eating in the restaurant but not on take out. I explained how that made no sense since they charge $4.25 for a soup when most restaurants charge $2.50-3.00 AND include noodles. He clearly did not care one bit that this was upsetting to his customer. Please understand - this is NOT about the $2.75 but principal. It is about the fact that this manager was not interested in keeping a customer happy or satisfied and chose to just ignore what I was trying to convey. When I returned home with the meal and gave my 5 year old granddaughter her soup - the first thing she asked was - where are the noodles - as we have ALWAYS had noodles supplied when ordering won ton soup. It would seem to me that when charging $4.25 for a small container of soup - it is not out of the ordinary to expect a few noodles to be included - especially since every other restaurant does and they charge less than $4.25. To say that they would lose money by adding a bag of a few noodles was an absolute insult to my intelligence.
I find that since Yangtze has joined with Tchang Kiang on Sherbrooke - they have become extremely greedy, raised their prices, reduced their portion sizes and lowered their standards dramatically on customer satisfaction.
In this particular case - throwing in a small bag of noodles (probably valued at mere cents) would have been a gesture that our business meant something to them - but they chose not to do this and let me walk out very upset and disappointed.
In this day and age - with all of the difficulties businesses are facing - it is more important than ever that customers feel valued. I hope that making the decision not to make a gesture of either showing concern for my dissatisfaction or including a simple small bag of noodles was worth it to Yangtze to lose the business of a family of 6 who have been spending tons of money at their restaurant for well over 60 years. We will take our business to a restaurant where we feel we are...
Read moreALL 3 OF US GOT SICK several hours after eating at the restaurant!! Last night we arrived at the restaurant at 7PM. We were the only people in the restaurant (1 other person arrived later to eat solo). I have been a regular customer at the original Yangtze restaurant. Even though they may use the name, this is nothing like the original. We ordered egg rolls, won ton soup, chicken fried rice and garlic spare ribs. Soup was fine. Egg rolls were cold and plum sauce has changed to something you find out of a jar you can buy at a supermarket. I asked for hot mustard and was charged extra for it. Spareribs were odd color and extremely fatty and over cooked or have been sitting many days in the sauce. Chicken fried rice was stale, dry and tasteless. Chicken pieces were dry and off tasting. We left most of the rice and ribs. The waiter packed up the leftovers and we left. BUT THE MAJOR CONCERN was about 4 hours later all 3 of us had severe stomach cramping and experienced vomiting. We all live in separate homes and it was only the next day that when we spoke to each other did we realize we all had the SAME GASTRIC DISTRESS (poisoning?). What the heck, in today’s world what kind of restaurant can get away with this complete disregard to food safety and quality? The waiter/manager was kind and helpful during service. I am sure he did not know what was coming out of the kitchen however there was a very tall large man (chef?) who would often appear in the dining room looking around. His black clothes were not clean and were heavily stained. I should have realized something was off. I normally order just the egg rolls and pick them up. I will not do that anymore. I hope this review helps those who may be immunocompromised or are susceptible to complications of food poisoning take heed. There are many fine Chinese restaurants in the city. I for one will not risk my health again at this one. Shameful. Good thing I did not eat the doggy bag (not fit for) leftovers the next day. I never write bad reviews of a restaurant, I just don’t go back. In this case I feel I must alert others to what I...
Read moreThis is the first time I order food delivery from here. In overall, I was quite disappointed for the delivery service and the food quality. I consider me as a quite easy customer but i didn't feel comfortable and willing to pay for the price compared to its sevice and food.
In term of service: the gentleman who answered my call was reasonable, kind and calm. That is the only reason that make me keep 3 stars for the restaurant.
2 . In term of delivery service: I ordered at 7:05pm and was told that my order would arrive after 1 hour. It was kind of long but can understandable if the restaurant was busy. After 1hour, I still didn't receive my order. I called them again and was told that the delivery man had been quite busy so that he would came in next 20mins. I was still okay and waited then. However, 30 mins later, I still did not receive my order and tried to call them again. The answer is that I still needed to wait another 10mins. Until I nearly called them again to cancel my order, the delivery man came at 8:55pm, around 2hours after I put my order. :( I can understand that you are busy and the delivery man is quite old, but 2hours for a delivery is kind of unexceptabe for me. Forgot to mention that my house is just 650m away from the restaurant.
In term of food quality: even I was super hungry after 2 hours waiting, the food did not make a wow for me, even they were still hot enough. I ordered 1 fried rice, 1 mapo tofu, and 1 sweet and sour pork as the recommendation from the gentleman. One good point for the sweet and sour pork is that the pork was kept juicy and tender enough. The portion is good for 2 persons. However, the taste was just so so, nothing was significant at all. One thing that I would recommend is to precure your pork before cooking, since it were still smelled bad and affected the taste of the whole dish (both for the mapo tofu and the sweet and sour pork). I don't even want to mention about the...
