I have been using Soba for years as my convenient go to Chinese restaurant. Food is generally good, consistent and timely. it's largely a take out restaurant as inside dining is minimally appointed and quaint in its simplicity . I have recently switched from General Tao Chicken to newish Korean style chicken General Tao. Though fried ,the latter results in a chicken that is much more moist and tastier. Either general Tao or sweet and sour sauce comes with the order. As well I added shrimp instead of the usual chicken to a mixed vegetable dish. The shrimp were cooked to perfection.
My presence on Mother's Day was also a revelation. The sushi platters were leaving the restaurant like packages at an Amazon distribution center.I have never been overwhelmed by their sushi but I am tempted to fall to peer pressure and give it a try with a spicy fresh sushi beyond the mayo my ultimate goal
Add: About to go on vacation with frig empty and after a morning of extensive physical activity,my hunger brought me to Soba, Korean Chicken and first eat in rather than take out experience. While Chinese food is always better when eaten immediately and this was invariably the case, the real find was that the smallish dining area has been completely furnished to include fake marble tops and handsome wood chairs in addition to mood music. The days of a seedy dining area are gone. Andrew and Jacky have done an excellent job whereby small parties can dine in close but comfortable...
Read moreUpdate 5 years later: We kept ordering sporadically from Soba, but unfortunately the quality has gone down over the years and the price has gone up. Our most recent take out order was for over 100$ worth of sushi and more than half of them were just filled with tempura batter and a a bit of fish. Recent picture added. Really disappointing because this used to be one of my favorite spots.
Pros: Very good quality sushi. Very reasonable prices. Offers many choices and meals other than sushi. Quick service. Offers delivery at no extra charge.
Cons: The restaurant is a little small.
We've never eaten physically in the restaurant and have always ordered our meals to go. The sushi is always fresh and they don't overkill it with rice, but find a good balance with the other ingredients. We will definitely be ordering here in the...
Read moreI used to really like this place, the sushi is really good for a small independent mom and pop sushi shop in NDG.
However they raised their prices significantly recently and also are progressively getting ruder when you phone. I just tried to ask the guy if I could pay to switch fake crab from my order and replace it with salmon and he scoffed like it was the first time any one had ever asked for that in the history ordering sushi... It took 20 minutes for him to understand and he acted like I was jerk for asking him that?!?
With the lack of customer service and the raise in price combined sadly I will be calling less.
It’s good sushi for small shop in NDG but that’s all it is. This isn’t gourmet Sushi over here nor does it deserve to be priced that way. The staff acting like my business annoys them doesn’t...
