I just had one of the worst dining experiences of my life here. To preface this, I work in customer service currently and I've worked in restaurants many times in the past, including a tiny hole-in-the-wall Greek place with a very similar atmosphere to Ole Ole, right down to the one older man running the front and back by himself. When I came in, there was nobody around and I had to lean into the kitchen and call out to get the attention of a man back there who I assume is the owner based on other reviews. The man took my order and brought my food out, and did not come back to check on me at all. I ordered Dobladas and it tasted okay, but somehow smelled like wet dog in a way that made me gag and only be able to finish 1/3 of the dish. Eventually, since the man didn't seem to be coming back (20-30 min of sitting there not eating with my plate pushed away), I got up and had to lean into the kitchen once more to get his attention and ask for a takeout box to take it home, despite not planning on eating any more of it. I didn't want to offend anybody. I packed up my own food and went to settle the bill. The man entered the transaction into the credit/debit machine and walked away. I typed in a 30% tip but somehow I must've made a mistake and it didn't register, so I cancelled the transaction. The man is still off doing other things. Like I said, I've worked in restaurants before and this particular machine is very straightforward, so I typed the total in again, added my 30% tip (I love supporting local businesses and as I said, I've been a server so I always try to tip extra even when the service is subpar), and completed the transaction. The receipt printed and I thanked him again and turned to leave. This is where it gets messy. He yelled after me in a very hostile tone and when I turned back, confused, he pointed at the first receipt where it said transaction cancelled. I explained what had happened about the tip not registering but he was not listening and kept underlining the "not completed" with his finger very aggressively and shaking the receipt at me. I, in turn, got agitated and went ahead and pushed the "print customer receipt" button on the machine and pointed at it a bit aggressively myself. He folded the receipt and thrust it at me, again, hostile and aggressive. I just looked at him and walked out.
I will never go back there, and will advise anyone who asks about it to not patronize this place, as when the staff make mistakes because they're not paying attention, they will treat you with extreme hostility and act like you're a criminal. Writing this review I'm absolutely nauseated but I can't tell if it's from the food or how furious I am right now. I threw the takeout box in a trash can down the street as soon as I left, and my only regret is that I didn't leave it at the restaurant and tell him how bad his cooking actually was. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Shame on you,...
Read moreMy experience at Ole Ole was excellent and I totally recommend this place to anyone who enjoys great food and service.
I went there with my boyfriend and a couple friends. We all enjoy great food that are made and served with passion and love, and they definitely scored 120% on both of them.
Because their menu was not typical tex-mex style we were familiar with, I let the owner Raou choose a dish for me. and he got me a Chile something which was grilled corn tortilla and sweet pepper stuffed with cheese and topped with tomato sauce that reminded of an Italian sauce. It was flavorful, authentic, and very juicy dish and I really liked it. The portion was just right and the spiciness was definitely there, but it was not overwhelming. We all got different dishes and we all agreed that they were superior. Every dish came with similar sides: rice, salsa, and beans. again, they were delicious :) also, a very important note is none of their dishes was greasy. so, if you like and are so used to deep fried stuff in every meal, you probably will not have the same opinion about this place as we do.
The owner Raou was such an charming entertainer who made our dinner experience there more amazing. He threw some jokes every time he came to our table and we just felt like bringing an extra chair for him to join us. He was really fun :) He ordered us vegetarian style pupusas ( I guess) to start with. Everyone loved it. it was something like cooked beans and corn tortilla in tomato sauce with sour cream kind of sauce on top.
oh, my. I am so bad at writing a review. lol If you are open minded and love to try something different and tasty, make a quick run to this cozy and amazing venue. The place is quite small and fills quickly in a...
Read moreI was never really a big fan of Mexican cuisine because most of the places I have tried so far served generic Tex Mex (and I had lived in the American South for a while); however, that's the stuff my husband loves so I indulge him once in a while.
We initially tried to go to another popular Mexican restaurant in New West, but the lineup was out the door, and we were both starving already. Luckily, we came across Ole Ole, which had no wait. The owner gave us the warmest welcome as soon as we walked im, and ushered us to sit anywhere we liked.
A few minutes after I ordered the taco combo, the owner came back out and asked if I would prefer taquitos, which wasn't on the menu. "Sure," I told him. "I'll give it a try." Oh boy, words don't do this meal any justice. They were like pork-stuffed spring rolls from heaven, sitting on top of a delicate, yet crispy, bed of lettuce salad, drizzled with a light dressing, and with guacamole for dipping. My mouth was dancing from the first bite to the last. I was so glad the owner made this for me. It's like he read my mind, and knew exactly what I wanted to eat when I didn't even know.
As we dined, the place began to fill up, as it deserved to be. As trite as this may sound compared to all other restaurant reviews, the food did seriously taste fresh, and had more of a unique homemade feel, compared to the majority of Mexican restaurants, which seem to be clones of one another. The price was very affordable with a total of less than $25 for two meals. And the owner, he was such a sweet and friendly man! I enjoyed my experience there so much that I just had to write my first restaurant review ever.
10/10 would recommend (if kids still say that), and we'll...
