A&W Canada — Restaurant in Nanaimo

Newly vegetarian, I love the beyond burger and onion rings at a&w and the way the company's headed. Unfortunately, the daily experience with their franchises leaves much to be desired. On this occasion on the way back from Vancouver island I stopped at the a&w next to the cactus club in nanaimo. I should have known what I was in for when I noticed the customer in front of me was demanding a refund for a mistake in his order. I ordered the beyond and rings combo and booo they are out of rings. Ok fine the sweet potato fries will have to do. Order a Buddy burger for my brother. Waiting waiting waiting.. what's going on here? Feels like they forgot my order somehow. They call a beyond burger order ready and I walk up. It's a beyond with regular fries. No buddy burger. The lady behind me asks me if I'm sure this is mine and I'm like well I've been waiting for 10 minutes it's better be. There are no other orders on the computer screen for beyond burgers so I dunno what happened here. I get the guy to get me a buddy burger pronto for my bro. And don't even mention my sweet fries. Guess I paid the upgrade for nothing. While sitting there eating with my fam I hear the manager say they are out of fries too. In my experience, The franchises are poorly managed. This one in nanaimo apparently is on the extreme end. Hope ymmv. Great concept, Canadian company. Would love to support it but if this continues and other brands get a veggie burger on the menu.. I don't care how good those rings are.. my business will...

I was gonna use a coupon that expired on April 2024,(5 months more to go). The lady cashier told me it stopped until the promotion came up again. It puzzled me?? (I should have asked a manager.) So instead, I ordered 5 stripped of chicken, and I said 1 drink and 1 fries..(I ordered a combo.) So I gave $20, she gave me $2 back, so I was looking at the price displayed it was $15 & a few cents, I was asking for a receipt, she didn't give me any, she just looked at me...again I was confused and upset..so after I ate my food, I asked again how much was the combo of chicken stripped, she said it was $15 & a few cents. she charged me each item of the food because she thought I was gonna order 5 stripped of chicken only...(Who would do that? & plus did not left the counter until I finish ordering food) I did not order food individually?...and she did not provide a receipt...I could make it worst arguing with the lady cashier but it makes me extremely upset already...and I noticed she was preparing people's food without a gloves or without washing her hands and working back to the front counter as a cashier back in forth...gross... I'm disappointed because we have been there for years.. It's not a big amount of money I lost, but the principle and honesty count for me... We dine out to relax. Instead, it...

I am an A&W follower and have been for years. This Turner road branch is going from bad to worse, if that is possible. I had decided not to go back because of the bad food and cold food a couple of weeks ago, but, I have in to my inner self and went back last night. When I asked for my root beed in a mug, the lady server said the freezer was broken and we needed to use paper cups. Life goes on. While I was waiting for my order, another lady came up to order and asked the fellow that was serving her for a cold mug. He said for sure and reached into the freezer and got her one. She told him that I had been told there were no mugs tonight so he asked me if I wanted a mug and poured my paper cup root beer into a mug. The lady server took him into the back room and said something to him. all the while this was happening, my food was in their serving area getting cold and the two of them finally decided that it was my order sitting there and gave it to me. It was very cool and not good tasting. End of the road for me, and I have been a faithful A&W client since the days the roller skates in Winnipeg. Needs some new management...
