Boston Pizza — Restaurant in Nanaimo

Well it was a big toss up between sushi 🍣, Cactus 🌵 or Boston Pizza 🍕, so we decided on Boston 🍕 as we had not been for a long time as their service is not normally that great. But we felt like pizza and pasta.

We arrived and we well greeted by a friendly young man and then escorted to a table but decided instead to sit outside on the patio with it being a great night and there was no one else out there. We were then greeted by a lovely young lady who had a very hospitable nature and happy demeanour. She ordered our drinks promptly and was very attentive and we then gave our full order to her. She nailed it in every way. Went above and beyond with serving our drinks and bringing out the food. She made our evening great, with her great conversations and super friendly personality. Her name was also very unique being Meadow and honestly gave us the BEST service ever, above any Boston Pizza we have been to over the many years of taking hockey teams to dinners. Her service was authentic and genuine and she actually showed that she enjoyed her work and having us as her guests, very rare these days. She has an extremely bright future ahead of her with all her great ambitions and dreams. She sure knows how to work for them and give all she can to what she does. She would be the manager of the restaurant as the manager is no where near her level of service. I ordered the lasagna expecting a a traditional delicious lasagna but instead got a bowl of weird flat noodles mixed with some tomato sauce with very little meat sauce and topped with cheese. Not good at all!! I only had a few bites and then left the the rest. Don’t try it! You will be very disappointed! Not once did the manager check on us even though the restaurant only had a handful of tables and then when I sent my meal back she didn’t even show up to apologise or enquire! Basically didn’t give a damn about our experience. And still only discounted the meal I sent back by 50%. That’s shameful! Who charges a customer for something that they don’t eat and more importantly don’t like because of the poor quality. Anyway the restaurant sure is lucky to have someone like Meadow working for them and the manager better watch out as Meadow could teach her a lot about enjoying your job and customer service. We went there instead of cactus club or the longwood thinking we would save money, boy were we wrong. after we were seated it smelled really bad in there, I think it was the cleaner they used but it was horrible! It smelled like throw up and chemicals! We Ordered a medium ham and pineapple on gluten free dough and a appy of wings to share, the wings came and were good the only thing is if you dont eat them fast they will taste like the dirty lettuce they put them on. After we ate our wings the waitress comes out (45 minutes after ordering) saying they cant do the gluten free dough in a medium size the only gluten free they do is the kid sizes (smaller then a small pizza!) and your paying around 13 dollars for it before taxes. You have to be kidding me! So I order gluten free pasta she comes back 30 minutes later saying they cant do that, they can only do gluten free pasta is you do the individual pastas where you pick a meat (chicken or ground beef) and a sauce (plain tomato sauce or alfredo) and for that price it would of been 20 dollars for a plain meat, pasta, and spaggetti sauce no veggies nothing! They gotta be crazy how hard is it to use there plain gluten free pasta noodles in place of regular in there signature dishes! but noooope they cant! absolutely ridiculous! After that we just wanted to leave so we got our bill after this 2 hours of crap we had to deal with and ended up paying 45 dollars for 3 wings each and 2 drinks! AND on top of it the manger was yelling at her employees and being very rude, sitting on her butt socializing well her staff were running around over worked and getting stressed out. I felt so bad for our waitress! NEVER EVER WILL WE STEP FOOT...

Tried the patio several times this summer as its a nice spot, but the service was dreadful. This happened EACH time we came. Waitress was rude, left dirty dishes on our table, ignored us, we went left because she forgot about us and didn't even bring us the bill until we went to the front to pay, then she came rushing after us and NO - they were Not busy! Tonight was the last straw, we gave them one more chance and they blew it BIG time! A friend and I went into the lounge to have a beer and a snack, watch a little football. About 12 young guys came in, several of which are drunk, loud, obnoxious. I have sons this age and they know better than this. The servers took a lot of crap from these guys , one which was pregnant. The manager - no where to be found until we asked for him as we were leaving. We asked if these guys had been checked for ID's and why they were serving them if they were drunk, asked if they understood the liquor licence laws - he of course assured us that everything had been done right - which was a lie as we watched the whole thing. When we asked why they weren't asked to leave because of their behavior we got yet another excuse. Everyone else left because of it and we left wondering which of these boys were asked if they were driving or not or even offered a cab to arrive safely home! HORRIFIC that in 2013 the management of this restaurant doesn't take drinking & driving seriously!! I will NOT go back again, period.
