My recent visit to Haru BBQ Korean Restaurant was deeply disappointing. It began with us asking our server if a particular dish was spicy. With a confident laugh, he assured us it was "zero spicy." However, upon receiving the food, my friend immediately found it intolerably spicy. She struggled from the first bite and could even feel the heat just by smelling it.
When we called the server back and explained the situation, hoping for a solution, he seemed clueless. After a pause, I suggested remaking the dish less spicy. He went to the kitchen only to return and inform us that it was closing, and the best they could do was offer free drinks. This felt like a poor resolution given the circumstances.
Additionally, we were served a dish marked with a green "V" for vegan or vegetarian, but it contained fish cake. As vegans, this was unacceptable. To make matters worse, amidst the chaos, we didn’t notice that the drinks provided contained milk, which we also cannot consume.
Overall, the experience was frustrating and unsatisfactory, with multiple lapses in service and attentiveness to dietary restrictions. I would not recommend Haru BBQ Korean Restaurant based...
Read moreI recently had a disappointing experience at this Korean BBQ restaurant. We specifically asked if a dish was spicy, and the waiter laughed and assured us it wasn’t. However, when the dish arrived, it was extremely spicy. When we informed the waiter that we couldn’t eat it due to the spice level, all he offered was a free drink because the kitchen was about to close (despite there being 30 minutes left before closing time).
Additionally, the service was poor; the waiter only poured us half a glass of water when we first arrived and never refilled it. To make matters worse, the dish contained fish cakes, even though we are vegans and had chosen dishes marked with a green “V,” which typically indicates vegan or at least vegetarian options.
Overall, the restaurant was expensive for the level of service and quality of food we received. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant...
Read moreHaru BBQ is a Korean restaurant located in a really cozy, wood-panelled building.
I had the mandoo (dumplings) and kangpungyuk (deep-fried chicken with garlic sauce). The food was very delicious, the portions were generous, and the prices were fair.
A couple of things were somewhat disappointing: Usually, servers in Korean restaurants come by to refill the side dishes; Haru doesn't seem to have this policy. Also, I was thinking about getting a bottle of makguli, but $20 for a bottle that goes for $8 in Coquitlam is just too much.
I think Haru has a lot of great potential, but I wish they would expand their menu a little bit and work on their customer service. Despite this, I strongly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner. Come early to get a...
