Mary Brown's Chicken — Restaurant in Nanaimo

Made an Order at 12:30 for Pick-up at 5:30 via the App. Left my house and got to the store where I find out the order was cancelled 5 minutes prior to me showing up. I called into the Store to talk to find out what was going on and received mixed explanations. The First person told me that the order was Automatically cancelled as they were so busy and that she would let their head office know about it. I asked her to have them call me and she gave me to the owner of this Franchise. I told him I was not pleased with the app and he told me that the order was not automatically cancelled and that they had cancelled it. He said it would be unfair to all the customers outside who have to wait for their order. Then why is there even an app to make orders in advance. I made that order so I would not have to wait in a line outside. This was my first and last experience with this Company.

This was by far the strangest fried chicken restaurant experience I've had in my life. We got our order, a 9 piece meal with sides of taters, mac and cheese salad (I'll get to that later), fried pickles, and chicken twists. The fried pickles were tasty but my god are they salty, saltier that you'd expect even for a pickle-based Appy. The twister was ok, mostly tortilla. The mac and cheese salad is just a mac salad, which is more than a little confusing when you order online. It was ok, very oddly flavoured but pleasant enough. The taters and chicken though. For being the namesake of the restaurant, I've NEVER had more flavourless chicken or taters. Ever. And I'm from the southern USA, I've had a lot of fried chicken. It was perfectly moist and well made bit not a single ounce of flavour. Even the spicy chicken was devoid of taste, aside from what was clearly just a load of cayenne pepper. Very disappointing. Absolutely no health standards in this store. The gentleman helping at the front counter didn’t have his extremely greasy hair restrained, coughing and wiping his mouth and face with his hands while helping us and the lady in the kitchen wasn’t wearing a hat/ anything to restrain her hair. As we were waiting for our food in the lobby, the gentleman took off his hat, ran his fingers through his long greasy hair, wiped his hand across his face and then bagged up my order while directly touching my chicken popins with his palm. I am absolutely appalled and don’t feel comfortable eating the food I ordered. As someone who has managed in the food industry for a long time, I can’t believe these are the standards being held at this location.
