We are a family of 4. Two moms A 2 year old and a 4 year old Arrived on Vancouver Island last September (almost 7 months ago), today was possibly my 10th visit to the cafe, but the first with my whole family.

The reception was hostile as soon as we arrived at the counter to order. By dint of chatting with her about ordering our breakfast, I assumed we weren't welcome. I felt uncomfortable. We weren't treated well from the start, but I never knew the reason.

Obviously, it got worse and in the end, we will have demanded a refund. she should have told us that they didn't want us as a client. we were looking to have a good time with the family, not to suffer the aggressiveness. we would simply have gone elsewhere.

Homophobia? Certainly not ... we are still well in 2021.

Hatred against francophones? Perhaps !

Don't like children? It would be surprising.

Anyway, if it wasn't this morning, I would suggest this place to everyone! And seeing the positive reviews, I wonder more about why we were treated like less than nothing. It’s an enigma!

Finally, this bad experience allowed us to broach the subject of injustice and discrimination with our children.

We send our best regards to this girl who seems to have a miserable heart .... to treat like pure strangers like this.

Oh, and besides, when my wife suggested To make lunch, I told her we should 'encourage' a Small Business .... I didn't expect to be kicked out like that lolllll

Good...

A charming and relaxing spot for a great meal, snack or coffee amongst the artisan shops of the New Town area of Chemainus.

I think it was a wise choice when they named the establishment Bistro rather than Cafe. The quality of the well crafted dishes, fresh baked treats and savoury bites lends itself to the higher standard they set in town. The meals are prepared fresh to order so come with that in mind as good things take a little longer to create. They serve Drumroasters coffee here which is roasted locally in the Cowichan Valley, popular with locals and visitors.

The Owl theme throughout the Bistro creates a unique atmosphere via interesting photos and decorations. The staff are friendly and inviting providing counter service ordering only. You can sit inside, out front when weather allows likewise with the neat discrete side alley patio.

I think you would enjoy your visit here and if you do stop by I recommend the Holy Cowichan Bowl or Salmon Benny as their...

I had been in the industry for 20 years. In all that time I have never enjoyed an eggs Benedict as much as i did today. Listening to Jackie's passion when he described the diah to me gave me goosebumps.

I tucked into the most perfectly poached eggs classically poached mind you which were placed on a sumptuous braised beef that tender and bursting with the flavors of a cool autumn day. All of this rested on a best of yam and potato hash perfectly crisped. This amazing dish was finished with the most silky buttery holindais sauce I've ever had the good fortune of eating.

Do your soul a favour, put aside something important and enjoy a piece of heaven on earth at the...

Walked here with my mom to have breakfast. We had lovely classic eggs Benedict, which was served with fresh fruit on the side. It was fantastic - perfectly poached eggs (we got them soft), crispy sourdough and tasty ham. The Hollandaise sauce was superb. Everything was super fresh. Staff were friendly and accommodating- we asked for waters and they gave us our own pitcher with tons of ice water since it was so hot outside. The cafe has their own guest WiFi if you want. They accept debit and credit as well as cash. They have a nice bathroom at the back of the cafe. The lemon tarts look amazing! We will be back for sure!! 💖💕

Great experience at this cafe. The service was prompt, polite, and efficient. The food was delicious I got the Bacon Avocado Benny with no bacon and my only complaint was there wasn't quite enough bread to sop up all the yolks and sauce. My husband got the Holy Cowichan Bowl and finished every bite. We shared the berry lemon scone it was delicious. The atmosphere is cute with, not surprisingly, lots of owl themed decor. Indoor and limited outdoor seating are available.
