Between my husband and I, we spend over $1,500 a month at Starbucks, and the Kemptville location used to be our favorite. It was convenient for our trips to Ottawa, and the staff used to be friendly ā they knew our names, our usual orders, even recognized our car. But after what happened recently, I will never return.
A new staff member was shockingly rude. She gave me a dirty look and spoke to me in a harsh, almost yelling tone over a simple misunderstanding. I had repeated my usual order from the day before and didnāt realize my banana loaf had been marked āwarmed.ā A small mistake like that certainly didnāt deserve the tone and attitude I received ā especially as a long-time, loyal customer.
What happened next was even more upsetting. I had briefly left my baby and my 10-year-old in our parked car, right outside the store with all four windows down, while I brought my toddler inside to place our order and wait for my husband, who was at the bank nearby. That same staff member called the police on me ā without ever speaking to me ā accusing me of leaving my children unattended. There were hardly any customers in the store, and she had clearly seen me arrive. Thereās no way she didnāt know that was my car.
The police came to our home, and when they couldnāt find us, they had to follow up in Ottawa. I was shocked, embarrassed, and deeply hurt. I was inside the store the entire time, within eyesight of the car. After I explained everything to the officers, they understood immediately that there was no issue.
Two days later, Iām still shaken. I feel disrespected, profiled, and incredibly disappointed. The way this was handled felt not only excessive, but racially biased. Itās disturbing to think that a regular customer ā or any customer ā could be treated this way.

Iām not sure what their name is, but a teen/young adult with red/orange hair took and served my order. I forgot to ask to redeem stars and he apologized (even though it was my fault). I do have to say that although he did everything right, a woman in the background who appeared to be in her mid to late 20ās, possibly even 30ās with dark hair shook her head and said something. The younger employees demeanour completely changed. Their shoulders hunched forward, their smile faltered and you could see that it hit their confidence and made what seemed like a hard morning, even harder.
I felt compelled to write this review in the hopes that the younger employee see this. You did everything right, even when it was my fault you took the blame. I hope your day gets better and I left the store a $2 tip, I hope you get some or all of it. I know itās not much but I hope that it helps your day out a bit.
I think a bit of sensitivity training for the woman with the dark hair is needed because of the effect she has on others. It was a busy busy morning today and everyone was tired/cranky but this younger employee handled it like a pro.

How is it possible to consistently screw up a simple cappuccino - that's it - nothing specil "a cappuccino".... half their staff gets it 100% correct and the other half constantly makes a full heavy glass of hot milk with a dash of coffee!?!?! I've returned it numerous times and explained why I was doing it - a different person usually re-makes it correctly but if it is the same person you just get the exact same thing! I've been offerred comps and declined, i do not want a free this or that ... i just want a simple cappuccino that literally makes my day when I take that first sip! Anyways, their manager is very nice as is most of their staff and I haven't had issues with the frozen drinks. If there was a different place close by I would go there but unfortunately i'm stuck with betting 50/50 on it being properly...
