Hathaway's Diner near my house has left me absolutely delighted with its incredible food and top-notch service. My recent visit, as an early Mother's Day gift from my thoughtful son, marked a special occasion for our family, being the first time in seven years that my children got to be with me for Mother's Day due to a custody schedule. The entire experience at Hathaway's was beyond amazing!
From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere enveloped us. The friendly staff greeted us with genuine smiles, instantly making us feel welcome. Our waitress, in particular, was an absolute sweetheart. She went above and beyond to ensure our experience was unforgettable.
Now, let's talk about the food—oh, the food! The menu at Hathaway's Diner is a true culinary delight. The diverse range of flavors and the creative combinations they offer are simply outstanding. One standout option that captured my heart was the Dunkaroo pie. This unique flavor combination brought back a flood of cherished childhood memories. It was like a delicious trip down memory lane!
The quality of the food surpassed all expectations. Every bite was bursting with flavor and made with evident care and attention. A gentleman whok I'm sure was either a manager or the owner confirmed this when talking to us about the gravy that's made in house from the roasts made in house as well.
However, what truly set Hathaway's Diner apart was the exceptional service we received. Our waitress went above and beyond to ensure we had an extraordinary experience. Not only did she provide prompt and attentive service, but she also surprised us by paying for our desserts. Her generosity and thoughtfulness touched our hearts and made the occasion even more special.
In addition to the fantastic food and service, the ambiance of Hathaway's Diner added to the overall enjoyment of our visit. The cozy and nostalgic decor created a welcoming and comfortable environment. It was the perfect setting to relax, indulge, and savor every moment of our time together.
To sum it up, Hathaway's Diner is an absolute gem. From the delectable food to the outstanding service, this place exceeded all expectations. It's a haven for food enthusiasts and a perfect spot to create lasting memories with loved ones. I highly recommend visiting Hathaway's Diner to experience the magic for yourself. I know I'll be returning soon to explore more of their...
Read moreMy husband and I came here today with two friend's to celebrate his birthday. Our morning got off to an auspicious start when our waitress tried to guess his age. She said 52. He's 82. From there, everything took off like a rocket.
Our two friends played spin the table. One ordered classic eggs benny while the other ordered a Rueben sandwich. Both were excellent. Their shared meal gave a whole new meaning to the word brunch.
I had steak and eggs, done to perfection. Medium rare. Poached and runny. The homemade hashbrown's were excellent and I substituted a fruit cup instead of toast. Didn't need the extra starch. And no problems with the substitution, like in some restaurants. And by the way, the potato's came with French's ketchup (Yeah!!!!!) served in little paper cups. That's just like they used to do at the lunch counter at the downtown Woodward's store in the 1960s.
My husband had a philly cheese steak sandwich with a side salad. I friend of mine once said that you can always judge a restaurant by how they do the simplest things, like how they do a side salad or a fruit cup for that matter. Both were excellent. As was the sandwich.
They gave my husband a free piece of pie because it was his birthday. He chose pineapple pistachio. It's what I call a summer pie, a graham wafer crumb crust filled with a parfait or cream filling. I don't have much luck making pies like this. I can never get the bottom and side crusts to be the same thickness. But this pie was excellent. It was light and airy. Melts in your mouth. A whole pie would cost you $36.00 plus tax. A steal!
The decor is very retro but what caught my eye were several photos at the back of the restaurant. Several were of boxers including Mohammed Ali. One was of a couple walking down the street. They looked like French actors from the 1960s. So cool. Another was of a couple in the back seat of a car. They reminded me of Hollywood royalty circa the 1940s.
And lastly . . . our waitress was the BEST!
A totally memorable dining experience. I highly recommend...
Read moreOMG… First off this is a tiny little restaurant and it gets busy fast as it is only open for breakfast and lunch so make sure you get there in time to get a seat and eat. The food was amazing and the portions are HUGE.. I forgot to take pictures but we both only managed to eat about half of our meals and brought the rest home with us which was our dinner. I was disappointed because I REALLY wanted to have a slice of their homemade pie which people were buying whole pies all over the place. I asked a few people around me which were their favourite pies and it came down to coconut cream and banana cream which neither were my favourites lol but I asked the waitress how much they charge for a whole pie and don’t quote me but I believe she said $36 which for the size of those pies is a great deal. I personally was checking out the Oreo cream pie or the strawberry cheesecake pie but my sister was buying so it was a no lol. The owner was very friendly and sat with us for a few minutes and when I asked him about the puppy pies he actually brought one to me and explained how he came up with the idea and how the humane society had contacted him and they are now going to be available all around the city. I was very impressed by this and said that I would definitely be showing my doggie daycare to see if they would be interested as well. The only thing that was a little bit underwhelming was the service, the waitresses were very friendly but, we found that they paid more attention to the regular customers than to new people. My sister received her meal first and I was waiting and we could see me meal sitting in the window and then once we finished eating we were waiting about ten minutes and still had not received our bill and then I finally had to ask the waitress for the bill. All in all we will go back again because it was really great food but hopefully we will become one of the regulars and get great...
