Arby's: Why the Brand is Struggling and Needs a Systemic Overhaul #1 - Declining Relevance in the Fast-Food Industry. The fast-food industry is evolving rapidly, driven by changing consumer preferences, the rise of health-conscious dining, and the emphasis on sustainability. Arby's, historically known for its roast beef sandwiches and "We Have the Meats" slogan, seems increasingly out of step with these trends. The company's menu and brand image have struggled to keep pace with the shifts in consumer behavior, especially when compared to the dynamic innovation seen in competitors like Chick-fil-A, Chipotle, and even fast-food giants like McDonald's. As a result, Arby’s risks being perceived as a stagnant brand. #2 - Outdated Store Design and Experience The physical environment of many Arby’s locations also contributes to its perceived irrelevance. Many stores maintain designs that are reminiscent of the 1990s and early 2000s, lacking the contemporary aesthetics and ambiance that today's customers expect. Competitors like Starbucks, Panera Bread, and even McDonald's have invested significantly in revamping their store designs, incorporating modern, comfortable seating, upgraded digital ordering kiosks, and environmentally sustainable materials. Arby’s, however, has lagged in this regard, which diminishes its appeal to younger, tech-savvy consumers. #3 - Technological Lag and Operational Inefficiency The fast-food industry has seen a surge in digital ordering, app-based promotions, and automated processes, especially during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Arby's technological systems appear outdated when compared to industry standards. The company has not fully embraced innovations like AI-driven ordering systems, delivery app partnerships, or streamlined supply chain management that ensures consistent quality and faster service times. As a result, Arby’s suffers from operational inefficiencies that contribute to longer wait times, inconsistent service quality, and a lack of seamless integration with delivery platforms like UberEats or DoorDash. #4 - Limited Global Expansion and Market Adaptation While many of its competitors have expanded successfully into global markets, Arby's remains heavily reliant on the North American market. This limited geographic presence puts the company at a disadvantage when competing with truly global brands like McDonald's, KFC, or Subway, which have tailored their menus and operations to cater to local tastes worldwide. Arby’s inability or unwillingness to expand into international markets reflects a lack of ambition or adaptability, ultimately limiting its growth potential. #5 - Failure to Adapt to Economic Shifts and Sustainability Trends** Sustainability has become a core concern for consumers, especially younger generations. Brands that fail to integrate eco-friendly practices and transparent supply chains are likely to be viewed unfavorably. Arby’s has not positioned itself as a leader in sustainable practices, nor has it significantly invested in reducing its environmental footprint. Furthermore, its reliance on processed meats and lack of transparency in sourcing practices are increasingly problematic. Competitors like Chipotle have successfully differentiated themselves by emphasizing organic ingredients, humane farming practices, and eco-friendly packaging, all of which resonate strongly with modern consumers. ### **Recommendations for Modernization and Future Success** For Arby’s to remain viable and competitive in the fast-food landscape, the company needs a comprehensive strategy that addresses both its brand identity and operational inefficiencies. Here are some suggestions for revitalization. This truly is painful to leave a review like this. This has been my childhood restaurant since about 15 years ago. I wish the best for this company and I hope they succeed. If not, I guess I'll make my own roast beef sandwiches! 🤔

The chicken sandwiches are awful!! They are like really cheap breaded frozen chicken patties that you buy at the grocery store. And look at the bacon they put on it! That little bacon?? Come on!! Are they told to give a third of a strip of bacon? There is no excuse to serve food like this considering it was $7.39 +taxes, and yet the competitors with excellent chicken sandwiches like KFC and Wendys and Popeyes cost less than that and they all use way better quality ingredients and taste a million times better and give at least 2 strips of bacon. I don't usually go to Arby's but have gone once each time they bring something new out, hoping it will improve, but it doesn't. The only good things they have is the Orange Cream shake - that is sooooo delicious!! And their cookies are delicious too!! The employees are generally very courteous.

1st time trying here.. Because of COVID, only drive thru is available. Had to eat this inside the car which I do not mind. I ordered Beef n Cheddar roast beef sandwich, the photo below is not that clear. Had no idea what to get if single or double or a half pound so just to be safe since I am hungry, I chose the double and oh boy, so huge portion. It was overwhelming but I was still able to finish it 🤭 get the curly fries too, not too much of a difference but it is the shape that makes the meal more interesting and appetizing. 🍻

ordered turkey bacon ranch sandwich only to drive away and find out I got a totally different sandwich. when I called to inform them no one would answer the phone. I called several times and still no one answered. I find it extremely upsetting to get something I didn't order and then nobody is willing to answer a phone call to deal with the issue in which they created. Completely unacceptable and this store in Chatham has gone down the wrong road. Used to be good not anymore. Very unprofessional. It leaves me feeling like they stole from me. They got my money and I didn't get what I ordered. Update: Arby's is only interested in helping if I go online and give them my personal info. so they can sell my info. really? I came in to get something to eat and now the only way you offer to fix us for me to give you more??? selfish and inconsiderate. Nice way to show your customers they...
