The secret to finding a great Chinese restaurant is almost always looking in the 3 star category. It means the food is on point but the pretentious bloggers and review crew pass on the ambiance and 'experience' because they want it to be social media picturesque. So where am I going with this in regard to Big Bites? I'm from Winnipeg and the competition between Greek burger places is in a word intense. But they all have something in common, they focus their efforts in the best ways of greek tradition, on amazing quality food, made simply with great products, delivered to you with excellent service and care where they treat you from first meeting as family.
Big Bites CRUSHES this. It's a burger joint, plain and simple in it's layout and delivery, nothing fancy just enough room to devour the food you're ordering in likely record time due to how good it is. I first went here for the burger, it's my sons favorite in the city and it stands with if not blows away anything in this category in the city. The smoked meat sandwich which my wife will never say no to is again simple elegance. Quality meat and rye taking you back to a simple well delivered classic. If you want a progressive gastro meal you're in the wrong place, you're going to get all the classic hits here done just the way you remember them. My daughter won't leave without the poutine and my wife always goes back and forth between it and the fries with either salt and vinegar or their (secret) Greek sauce, a combo of tzatziki and Feta that you didn't know you needed to dip fries in, but you do. The fries are not your Belgian extra crispy frites but softer pillowy I dunno, greek fries? They're good. No, they're great.
I'm now a believer in the Chicken pita it's my go to, piled with meat, onion, tomato and a house Tzatziki, there's no point to going somewhere else, their Gyro is just as on point if you're feeling beef and lamb.
The owner (Dmitri? I think that's his name but I could be wrong) loves his restaurant with the passion of the Greeks, and you'll absolutely see this if you meet him. I'll probably be exiled for saying this as his pride wants the 5 stars, but tbh I think this place is the King of the 4 stars and I mean that (see the beginning) in the absolute best of ways. He's a 5 in my books but the 4+ rating Big Bites has makes this place the pocket secret of great greek burgers and fries...
Read moreCustomer service at drive through was terrible when the boss wasn't there and u couldn't take more than one bite bcuz it seemed like one of them did something to my hot dogs. Also everytime I go there for last 3 yrs and ask for onions (always saying I'll pay extra) I get rude behavior like I'm asking for a freebee...the owner gets upset when you ask for raw onions on your hotdog...onions are a hot dog topping for a lot Mr. Big bites, even if you don't agree. And when I ask for them and offer to pay before you even give me a hard time ...but you still give me one, then you are going to lose business...fake politeness is no substitute for the real kind and it makes the food taste sketchy as I wonder what your team did to it when I'm in the drivethru...also be nicer to your employees so they're not always feeling disrespected by you and become disgruntled enough to do messed up things to your customers food. Btw when I posted on FB I got some similar feedback from others that used to live a lot of your food but they've also stopped going all together and a lot of them were tllike me and went for the hotdogs at least once a week. I hope you clean it up as I will come back in a yr to see if it's the same, or that you've made good changes ...remember l, raw onions belong on hotdog for many people... especially if it the works, so just charge when you're asked and be glad for the extra money on an order and remeber onions are so cheap man and fifty cents or a dollar for half an ounce of chopped red onion is a great...
Read moreHave been going to this place since it opened very regularly.. today when I walked in everything was alright , then once I got my order I noticed it wasnt what I had ordered so I proceeded to tell the cashier , she then gave attitude to the cook yelling at him took the wrong order and set it behind her . I said sorry and she still proceeded with attitude. Once I got my order I went to go leave and as I got to the door she screamed at me asking if I had stolen the other order of food .. I looked back and I told her she put it behind her .. she didnt even look and shrugged her shoulders as if I was lieing .. and I walk closer to point at it then she starting really giving attitude saying I can leave now and didnt apologize once for anything , I had apologized even tho I hadn't done anything in the wrong she clearly didnt hear my order it wasnt a big a deal I wasnt mad I even offered to pay the remaining fee . Just disappointing that some people dont have respect nor apologize. Wont be going back and will be telling people about this. Iv worked several years in the food industry and no how things go , customers normally are right or you try to please them . There was non of that here! Not to mention the owner is a pig the way he talks about women .. he had the nerve to pull my husband aside and try and show him half naked photos of women !! For one my husband has respect and doesnt want to see that and there is a time and place for stuff like that...
