Myself and a couple coworkers went to this location after work last night. As we showed up we were immediately told last call was in effect(11:05pm, restaurant is open until 12am) which was fine. Took drink ordered at about 11:25pm. I requested a ginger beer and was told I wasn't able to have it because "there wasn't a button to charge for it" and was denied the drink(which is fine). The waitress serving us takes our order for food(ordering appetizers for the half price appetizers deal). Everyone in my party orders 2 -3 appetizers each. After the order was set, the waitress came back and proceeded to tell us that we were only allowed 2 appetizers per drink(which has never been a requirement any time nor says on their menus in the fine print). Requirement is a purchase of a drink to get the deal. One person changed their order.. because of it, those who didn't change their order obtained what they ordered without the purchase an extra beverage(waitress claimed that she was in trouble for the amount of apps served a previous day to customers who ordered one beverage and couldnt so anything for us and apologized(kind of like price gouging) myself and others didn't end up having to purchase extra drinks to get the deal. Which was unprofessional and strange for an establishment to do such a thing after the order was taken. At the demand of the manager on the shift. Once our drinks came the waitress brought the bills(so they were ready to pay but was no rush. And was told we were not allowed to order more food, the time was 11:35 and the restaurant is open until 12am). Once we received the food in the middle of eating(food was placed on the table less than 5 minutes) we were told we needed to pay so she could cash out(everyone having food in their mouths and holding food in their hands) some boneless wings I ordered(after I paid) were cold. The wings I ordered I imagine are precooked but the meat was cold and the sauce was the only thing warm. I told the manager working my food was cold.. proceeded to tell me that he took them from the kitchen as they were finished(which means nothing) told me he wouldn't get me a new batch because they were closing. (This is 11:50) I was then told he could give me 50% back for the wings that I couldn't eat(I expressed that wasn't an option) proceeded to tell me he wouldn't refund me because he didn't have the authority to refund me for an item that wasn't edible that I had already paid for. (Pretty much said that's too bad) I am extremely dissatisfied with the pushiness, unawarence and disrespect of the crew who took care of us. Constant excuses and unwillingness to work with the already paid up customer. This isn't right.. this is kind of forcible theft . Because the rushing of them wanting to close up and leave.. unawareness to their own policies which turned into attempted price gouging after orders were made is messed up and this manager should be held accountable for his professionalism of his position. Short blonde man . Glasses and strange ponytail. Unprofessional addressment of the situations that came up. I will not be back. I hope...
Read moreI have eaten at chuck's numerous times, and have been to numerous locations between Toronto and Windsor. It played a huge part during the honeymoon of my first marriage, and has been a routinely thing for me and my current fiance. Today, however, was the worst experience not just from a Chuck's steakhouse but from any restaurant that I have been too.
It started with me and my fiance meeting up downtown. The restaurant we had originally planned on going too was closed due to renovations, so when we saw the Chuck's downtown location, we jumped at the opportunity because it's something we both like.
Things didn't start off good. When we arrived and were taking a moment to decide whether we wanted to eat on the patio or inside, this shaved headed employee came out with an attitude and demanded we get rid of outside drinks. OK fair enough, I chugged mine and threw the container in the empty trash bin, my fiance hesitated because she isn't used to not having garbage bags in the trash containers, the employee in a mocking tone said, "you don't hear me complaining just get rid of it.". She did, and we were led in.
After being seated, the employee noticed my fiancé's Stanley cup and backpack and immediately became rude again. He pointed at the cup and said "that cup needs to sit far back, and if he sees her take even 1 sip, then we will be handed a bill and kicked out. Unless we can provide a card that shows she absolutely needs it." I'm type 2 diabetic and I don't even have a card, but I need to keep my sugars in check... the guy continued to come over to check on the cups position through out the meal.
We retaliated, because he wanted to make a big deal about the ice water in the cup. We decided we wouldn't waste 1 penny on alcohol or soda. Chuck's can supply us with the water they want to complain about. As I began to look through the menu, I quickly chose my item and began looking at all the 1 star reviews this location had. Having my own business I have learned 1 star reviews are often the most real. It shows how a business is run. Google does look favorably on the staff of this location.
Continuing on with the meal, my fiance asked for a straw. The employee made a smart remark on how they only give straws to people who ask for them and he's sure she does just fine drinking from a cup at home. I had to argue that my fiance drinks from the Stanley cup at home which comes with a straw and she does this because her teeth are really temperature sensitive. The employee made a quick remark on how no restaurant would allow outside drinks. We eat out a lot, and we can say Mandarin has no problem with it, east side marios has no problem with it. Chuck's at argyle has no problem with it. Jack astors, etc etc etc the list goes on.
In the end, the attitude today resulted in loss of profit which we would have spent on drinks. Loss in profits from having 2 repeat customers. And 1 of many 1 star reviews since we couldn't get out of there fast enough. We won't be back to this location. We will spend our money at any other chuck's...
Read moreDowntown location....horrible. awesome patio, however, we have been going to chucks exclusively every time we go for dinner because of the cheap beer and good food, but this location apparently thinks we're idiots. We always, always get the same meals no matter what location we go to...we ordered the steak and we couldn't believe the tiny little piece of meat we got!! I don't have big hands, and this thing was smaller than the palm of my hand!! That steak usually is half the plate! When we brought this up with the manager she had nothing to say except, "well this is how it was packaged, and they are all like that".
I'm sorry, but we know for a fact that steak dinner is much much bigger usually and at all the other locations... we're not trying to get a free steak, just want to not pay the price of a full steak for a tiny piece of meat... we feel taken advantage of.
To make matters worse, some idiot sat right in front of the no smoking sign, lit up a cigarette and sent all his disgusting smoke towards us. When I told our server, she didn't give a hoot. Couldn't care less that custo.ers were bothered and unhappy.
Very disappointing, the owner of that location seriously needs to step up his game or sell.
Reply to Chuck's reply: Our complaint is here now, not email. We don’t have the receipt. We had the top sirloin, and two montreal sandwiches, with bud lights, and iced tea. Should be easy to find, as there was only like two other tables there, July 20, mid aft.
While I can understand at whatever level the person writing this response is that you want a chance to rectify this, to us, this was the opportunity we tried to do with your manager, who should be easy to confirm for this date and time. Again, we go to chucks, mostly the north one multiple times a week and have no problem emailing you with the last 4 of our card to confirm that. As such, we know the size of this steak, as between two of us, it’s ordered primarily, and know this was not it, as you do looking at our photo, and as I’m sure the manager did.
She basically told us that’s the size, and that’s all we can do, nothing else. We had to go, so it was either the person eating doesn’t eat and we tell them to take it back, or take it and reflect our experience in this review, and here we are. We’re not looking for a free meal rebate, that won’t cut it for us, and the experience with that manager simply looking at what we showed here, and telling us essentially, no, ( despite all the times we have ordered this), that is what was in the package, is honestly bad customer service and basically lying to our face.
If you want to do something significant to make up for this, we will email you, otherwise you deal with your manager how you see fit, this review stays as is, and we will frequent another place for...
