Gilly’s offers local pub food, pool tables and a place to watch sports games. The menu is fairly large with a good variety of options It’s basic pub style food, hamburgers, deep fried apps, pasta and sandwiches. If you are hungry I would suggest ordering an app as soon as you arrive because the service in the kitchen is slow, no matter if the restaurant is empty. I have waited over an hour and a half for wings one night. I’m not sure if the server forgot to ring our food in but to get food has always been consistently slow. The service is okay. This is a lot of the staffs first time serving so you need to be patient with them. They are still learning. I’ve never seen any management in the restaurant checking in with staff, running food or checking on tables. The restaurant has a warm feel to it. It’s comfortable and has a little patio out front. I do feel like it is over priced for what it is. I ordered Antojitos and Potato boats for take out with the tip. It was close to $40 If you went into town to Stratford, the service is better. More experienced staff for the industry. The pricing is more reasonable and you receive quicker service. Management definitely needs to step up to make the service...
Read moreWe came here to sit on the patio since it was in the sun. We had the bacon cheese dip which was pretty good and thank goodness we got that to start because I got served spoiled meat. I’m not one to normally complain since I manage a restaurant myself so when I notice something alarming I know it’s really bad. I got the brisket on top of my nachos which had a weird smell when they came out, but I had assumed it was just the fish my grandpa had ordered but then I took a bite and the taste was just like the smell. It wasn’t the sauce because there was no sauce. It was the brisket that smelled like wet dog. I have been sick all day and morning. Ruined my day. I had to go home almost right away and couldn’t eat because I felt so ill. They definitely need to work on their food storage or something. Also amazed me how they served it with that smell coming from them. If I was bringing food out in my restaurant and smelt something so gross I would not serve it to a guest. The waitress was very nice and got it taken off the bill. Offered something else for me but after eating what was definitely expired meat, I did not want to take my chances. No manager to apologize either. Kind of...
Read moreHusband and I were visiting from Kitchener for the first time and we grabbed some lunch here because you usually can’t go wrong with pub food. Not sure if the kitchen was having an off day but the food was very disappointing, other than the crab Rangoon we got as the appetizer, which was fantastic but $16 for 5 pieces? That’s insane.
Burgers are my favourite food and I order it everywhere, so I got the Cajun burger and man it was the driest thing I’ve ever had. The patty itself was extremely dry and not Cajun spiced at all, as the menu described. No flavour whatsoever, not even any sauce to save the patty. My husband had the fish sandwich and it was very thin and dry as well. The fries weren’t even great. It also took quite a long time to receive the food. People arrived after us and received their food before us so I’m not sure what was going on with the kitchen. We did let the waitress know (who was very nice and just doing her job), but not much she could do about the situation.
The price was outrageous for what we received as well so as much as I would want to give this place a try again, I would rather not risk paying that much for...
