We do not recommend the Midtown Brewery for groups of more than 8 people!
We’re a group of four retired couples visiting The County and we decided to have a family get-together at the Midtown Brewing Co., in Wellington. Ontario. An email was sent two weeks before the planned visit inquiring about the restaurant's hours of service and policies and an email response was received stating they do not take reservations, and large groups may have to be split up at separate tables to accommodate everyone.
When our party of eight arrived, we were told to sit at a table and the wait staff would take our order. We were also informed that each table would be provided with only one bill, individuals or couples would not be given separate bills. As more family members arrived, the two wait staff members seemed overwhelmed, and by the end of the night, there were around 40 to 50 guests at five tables. The manager, who was also one of the two servers, presented us with only one bill, for all five tables of 40 to 50 people! The bill totalled over $1,000! She went on to say that we would have to figure out how to pay it ourselves and would only take one payment!
Our family laughed, but was frustrated and disappointed at the lack of hospitality and customer service. We had to figure out the bill and payment process ourselves, and in the end, we were a little short of the total because the bill included an 18% gratuity! Our original group of eight are from outside The County, but the balance of the 40 family members that joined us are County residents.
Despite the poorly managed billing, everyone had a good time, and we all want to plan to have a similar get-together again. However, I think we have all decided not to go to the Midtown Brewing Co. again unless they change their customer service policies.
It seems clear the Midtown Brewing Co. needs to improve its customer service. While it's understandable that the restaurant doesn't take reservations and may have to split up large groups, the wait staff should be prepared to handle such situations better. The manager's decision to change the policy on the spot without warning and to only take one payment was unprofessional and caused unnecessary stress for our family. If the restaurant wants to retain customers - especially County residents - and attract new ones, it needs to prioritize customer service and ensure its policies are communicated clearly and followed...
Read moreI have nothing but great things to say about Midtown. You GOTTA eat here!
For the last few years, my husband and I make a couple trips to PEC every summer and each time, we're always sure to end the day at Midtown. Despite living in Toronto and being close to nearly every kind of restaurant/bar, Midtown doesn't compare to any other place we've been to. We absolutely LOVE this place--the people, the food, the property, the energy--and it keeps us coming back every time... And here's the funny part, we aren't even beer drinkers! (Though i'm sure Midtown's brews are fantastic!)
FOOD: We love that the menus change depending on the season and the food quality is beyond anything I've ever had at a brewery. Fresh ingredients and good portions. You can tell the chef(s) love(s) what he/she does. We've recently transitioned to veganism and were a little worried there wouldn't be food options for us anymore... but we were so pleasantly surprised! The fact that there are STILL options for us here made us so happy--the veggie burger was one of the best burgers we've ever had. That vegan mac sauce... WOW! And the simple salad--as 'simple' as it might look--was incredible. I'm still thinking about it!
SERVICE: I also want to touch on the thorough social distancing measures put into place because this is now a big part of our realities. This was our first time out in the last 3 months and naturally, we were a little uneasy. Rest assured, we felt so safe and confident the entire time. The tables are SO far apart (unlike the typical set-ups in Toronto), there were tons of sterilization measures put into place, and our wonderful server (whose name I don't remember, but she had short hair!) was so lovely and didn't "hover," which was appreciated during these times. Thank you for making our first mid-pandemic restaurant experience great!
I don't write a whole lot of reviews on here, but I really wanted to write to you guys because it's not often that we feel consistently impressed by a place time after time after time after time. You guys are killing it and we look forward to dining there again soon. It's obvious to us how passionate your team/owners are and we wanted to...
Read moreWe have been to Midtown numerous times over the years. Love their pizza and beer, and the vibe. However we were very disappointed in our last visit, over the long weekend. We took a patio table and ordered drinks and food. Just after our drinks arrived a huge black cloud moved in and the rain started coming down pretty hard. We grabbed our drinks and moved inside. We did not expect there would be an empty table waiting for us. But we did expect they would seat us when one became available. My daughter asked the young hostess, who informed her that as tables came up they would go to people on the waiting list. I thought maybe she was mistaken so I spoke with another older hostess, who also appeared to perhaps be a manager. She reiterated what the young girl had said. I pointed out a table for 6 (there were 5 of us) that had been sitting empty for several minutes. I was told it was taken - not through a reservation but from the waiting list. I asked if we were expected to stand and eat, and she said “we don’t control the weather “. I suggested that they could, however, control the seating. She wouldn’t budge. We canceled our pizza order, finished our drinks and left about ten minutes later. No apologies. And the table for 6 was still empty!! Poor poor customer service, and a really...
