I grew up going to Mykonos with my father and grandmother and we always loved sitting on the patio and enjoyed the authentic greek food and the fact that the owner would come around to the tables and ensure everyone was happy with their meal. Two years ago we returned to Mykonos and the decor was exactly the same only worn with no updates, and the food was okay but dry. Today my father and I went back to Mykonos thinking we would give it another shot, for an almost $50 bill we received stale bread as a starter, a burger filled with fillers and on a stale tasting bun, fries that had been frozen and not cut fresh, and a seafood platter that was supposed to be grilled but came deep fried and was so overcooked it was dark brown, and the fish was so salty I had to return it. When I got my newly cooked grilled fish it was clearly frozen and not fresh and was dry and so unappealing I did not eat it. My father was tired as he had drove in from Ottawa and didn't want to make a big deal about it. When I came home I was was very sick and called the restaurant to tell them, the owner was extremely rude and told me that their prices were cheap ($23 for a plate of frozen and over fried food) and their food was excellent and that I didn't know what I was talking about. I told him how sick I was and he told me that there was nothing he could do for me and that if I came many years ago then I need to understand things change. When I explained to him that my father is actually a chef who teaches culinary and who has opened many successful restaurants he laughed at me and told me that his food was excellent. I will never return to Mykonos and strongly advise against anyone else going there. The once upscale greek atmosphere is old, worn, and dated, the food is highly overpriced, stale, frozen and poorly cooked and unfortunately the owner is too stubborn to see the changes that need to be made to make this place popular again. I predict this place has and will continue to go downhill until it eventually closes. I will always cherish the memories once had there, but I will never eat...
Read moreEager for a filling dinner this evening, I bused over to Mykonos. It’s one of London’s popular Greek restaurants.
I enjoyed some fresh bread and butter to start. Then, my server brought me Saganaki (a fried cheese appetizer) and lit it on fire! They have a tradition where they get you to shout “Opa” three times while watching the flame. The fried cheese was sour and tangy in a good way. It reminds me of Gouda.
For my main, I chose the classic Chicken Breast Souvlaki in a pita. The pita was everything I hoped for. Rice and a salad came on the side.
My dinner ended with an intriguing dessert: a custard cake with honey. I loved this. The cake had crystallized sugar on top. They also usually serve this with cinnamon.
I felt right at home with their atmosphere. The two thematic colours are white and light blue. They had a Greek radio station playing on their stereos, and I jammed to upbeat music.
My bill came to $56.
Here’s a big shout-out to Elli for taking care of me!
Mykonos is a terrific option for traditional Greek cuisine and even seafood. It passed...
Read moreGood home cooked Greek food! This place is a local gem! We’ve all driven by it, wondered about the white and blue little house it’s defiantly worth stopping in and checking out!
In the summer time they open up the covered patio and it’s like being in Greece! The interior is also, very cute, decorated in the same blue and white is as the exterior of the building. The decor alone is nothing else I’ve ever seen in London.
The food is always good, offering vegan and vegetarian options. I highly recommend the calamari as a starter, not battered straight out of a freezer, tastes wonderful.
Parking is the only thing that can be a tad difficult here. The rear has a small parking lot, there are a couple of spots across the street behind the variety store or you can park down Elise just make sure you are on the right side of the road as one side does not allow parking.
This restaurant is good for small or large groups and is family/small kid friendly. We’ve had birthdays, celebrations, or just a typical Thursday night...
