In Old East Village, life can be, shall we say, unvarnished. It's a neighborhood with its share of hard knocks, grappling with the complexities of homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges. Yet, amidst the raw truth of urban existence, there are places that don't just survive; they stubbornly thrive, offering respite and a sense of place. Dough EV is precisely one of those places.
Stepping into Dough EV – the "EV" proudly standing for East Village – is like finding an unexpected pocket of peace. The heavy brick archways, remnants of an older London, welcome you into a space that feels both historic and thoughtfully updated. It's not a sterile, cookie-cutter cafe; it’s got soul. Soft, modern music hums quietly in the background, the lighting is just right, and there are inviting spots, from cozy armchairs to communal tables, where you can genuinely unwind. It's the kind of spot where you can settle in, take a breath, and just be.
I recently stopped in for a batch brew coffee and a "Simple" donut, and let me tell you, that donut was a revelation – easily the best I've had in a long time. It arrived impossibly fresh, its flavor profile unmistakably handcrafted. This isn't your mass-produced, chain-store donut, designed to sit on a shelf for hours. This is the real deal, a testament to what happens when care and quality ingredients are prioritized over speed and volume. Even Homer Simpson himself would undoubtedly give a guttural "Mmm, donuts!" of approval. The coffee, too, was a perfect companion, a straightforward, well-executed cup that underscored the overall quality.
Beyond their exceptional donuts and coffee, Dough EV’s menu offers a surprising range, from inventive cronuts and fritters (rumored to be enormous!) to savory sandwiches like their vegan Tofu Banh Mi. They cater to various tastes and dietary needs, a genuine nod to inclusivity.
Dough EV is more than just a place to grab a bite; it’s a vibrant, positive force in Old East Village. It’s a bright spot, a place of connection, and in a neighborhood often unfairly judged, it's a testament to resilience and community spirit. If you're looking for honest-to-goodness good food and a genuinely peaceful moment in the heart of London, do yourself a favor and experience this gem. It’s a true lifeblood for the...
Read moreI loved the donuts here but I also really need to commend the service. I went here on Valentines day 30 minutes before closing, the gentleman that served us was still chill and helpful after a long day of serving couples and apologized very sincerely that they had already cleaned the espresso machine before we arrived. They were out of a couple donut options but still had lots of the other options on the rack so regardless of being a smaller joint they were very prepared! We were there to get donuts from a local place anyway so honestly I didn't mind that their espresso machine wasn't available. We got a sugar and spice donut, a tiramisu donut, and a lemon london fog donut to share. The sugar and spice donut was simple in the best way (very classic and comforting), and I have been craving the other two for the last 2 days. The tiramisu and lemon london fog were some of the best donuts I have ever had. The cream fillings (while different flavors) were both so fresh and the donuts were fluffy without being soggy. Donuts were my partner's pick for Valentines day as I tend to prefer Italian desserts but wow Donut EV has changed my mind on donuts as a whole. The only complaint I would have is that there was no parking on the street or otherwise, which isn't something they can control or change. I think it was more than worth the walking distance from the parking we found. Highly recommend! Definitely going back as...
Read moreAmazing donuts and amazing staff! We got half a dozen of donuts (Oreo, Mandarin Sage, Raspberry, Boston Cream, Salted Caramel, Sesame Ball), Mocha, and Cappuccino. All of them taste soooo gooood!
We spilt the cappuccino and made a mess but the staff called Sabine was an amazing person, he cleaned up the mess for us, gave us new donuts (cuz the ones we got were soaked by coffee), and made us new coffee. When he was cleaning the mess, he accidentally hit the ornament on the ceiling with the mop, and pieces of broken glasses went everywhere. We thought some landed in our donut box (which it did not!) and we were looking for it. Sabine saw it and he immediately say he is gonna change all the donuts for us (there were 3 left in the box at that moment). He came back and told us that they have no more Oreo donuts so he gave us two more new ones! We ended up having so many donuts!
Just want to say thank you Sabine, and it is definitely the best place for donuts in London! will come...
