I first sat at a table that was incredibly wobbly. It wasn't clear to me when I walked in, if it was a place where I was going to be waited on or if I had to just go to the counter right away and order my food, I wasn't clear on what the arrangement was. I was sitting and waiting for friends anyways, so I just sat. After probably 10 or 15 minutes somebody came by and gave me a menu. I sat and looked over the menu, and while I was looking through the menu, one of the workers behind the counter kept staring at me. I felt really uncomfortable. I just ignored him and pretended I didn't really care or notice, but I could feel his eyes on me for quite a while. Eventually I switched to the table next to me because the one I sat at was much too wobbly. The table next to me was pretty dirty, I was going to ask if they could clean it. But I shouldn't have had to. There wasn't anybody sitting at that table long before I showed up. It's clear that keeping the tables clean isn't a priority in this place. Eventually I moved to a third table, after seeing that they cleared the dishes away and thankfully the worker told me to wait so he could wipe it down. They weren't even busy so I don't know why it needed to take so long to make sure they were clean tables for people when they come in.
As for the menus, there's no descriptions of what the items on the menu are. So if you're not from Pakistan, you're probably not going to know what a lot of the things are. Of course you'll recognize classics like butter chicken, but a lot of the other things you won't. They also don't mention the spice level for the menu items. I know Pakistani food can be spicy, but there's plenty of Pakistani food that isn't spicy. I ended up just ordering what I recognized, which is too bad because maybe some of the other menu items would have been better but I just don't know what they are.
Prices are reasonable and the food actually tasted pretty good. I wouldn't say it was life-changing but it was not bad.
Our server was kind of awkward, not overly friendly but not really rude or unkind either.
The floors were kind of gross. There was food smeared all over the floors. There was food on the seats too. I think they can do a better job with cleanliness and frequency of cleaning. When I see a place like that, my first thought is, I hope they're following safe food handling practices in the kitchen. I don't want to go home and get sick.
My friend didn't expect the food to be so spicy. He ended up going home and not being able to sleep that night. It wasn't overly spicy but he's a little sensitive to the spice. There should be a little bit of a disclaimer in the menu about how spicy the food will be or have the option to make it as spicy or not spicy as you desire. Not everybody likes spice, especially in Canada.
I'd say the naan was pretty good. I haven't had sesame on naan like that before.
Would I return? I would rather try somewhere else. I like trying new restaurants, it's not one that would be high on my list of restaurants...
Read moreConfused: is this a full service dine in restaurant? Told the server I am ready to order, he asked to come to the front to order. I guess not full service… No big deal. Asked for 1 halwa puri and 1 full chicken karahi. The young man at the front, said they don’t have chicken Karahi at this time since it’s breakfast time (1pm) and will take an hour. Oh well, disappointing but it is what it is right? Let’s order breakfast.oh we don’t have 2 out of 4 itmes we have for breakfast. Damn. Thought it was breakfast time.
Ok my family is visiting me from hamilton so I am like they came here just because I bragged about their Karahi, let’s just get halwa puri, bun kabab, and wait an hour for half karhai. We got the halwa puri, oh man it is AMAZING. Daal is terrible, the rest of halwa puri is one of the bests I have ever had. But halwa amount was laughable amount. I was like maybe they ran out that’s why it’s so less. But the worker (well server now i guess because he brought it to the table, the table by the way needed to be cleaned - side note) said that that’s the normal amount. That’s pretty pathetic, it’s not an expensive item like meat, don’t give 3 days worth of useless daal and 3 bites of halwa. Good thing I only ordered one.
Bun kabab was great !!
Chicken karhai was ready in 50 mins which is excellent. I used some of the wait time to write this review by the way :D
Honestly the Karahi is excellent. Halwa puri is excellent. Bun kabab excellent.
I just don’t understand they will serve you food at your table but ask you to order at the from standing, then pay standing. But what I don’t understand is the total bill is more than my math tells me. Not by a lot but, it’s the principle.
5 naan ($2.50 x5) 2 water ($2) 2 lassi ($10) Half chicken karhai ($26) Bun kabab ($8) Halwa puri ($15) 13 percent tax That’s $83.055 but I paid $87. Where’s the extra 4 bucks… are the menus not updated? Oh well.
Look the food is great. The owner is great. The young guys working at the front can do better.
Tables not wiped, toilet out of paper towel. Their energy is like they are dreading working here, no smile, no care. And this isn’t the first time.
Ramadan. Booked in 2 weeks in advance for all you can eat iftar. Checked 1 week before to make sure and then checked the day off the make sure we have a table. When we got there, we ended up having to let 2 random men join us because they booked one extra table.
2nd time, I asked multiple times, no oil or butter on the naan. I can’t do naan with oil or butter. Brings me naan with oil and I said I can’t eat that, the young guy tries to convince me that it’s great with oil and what not, like I have never tried it before. So this time I had to write a review when there are this many f ups.
Now enjoy halwa puri...
Read moreI want to start off by saying Rambo’s kitchen has delicious food and in no way is this review speaking negatively on the taste of the food.
I placed an order a little while ago for my party / gathering of 6 1 chicken biryani party tray ( great portion size) 1 mixed bbq platter LARGE ( again … LARGE)
The mixed bbq later on door dash is priced at $74.99 ( I placed the order for pickup over the phone but looked at door dash menu for reference). My total including the biryani was somewhere around $150. For $150 I was expecting enough food to feed my party of 6.
The description for the “ LARGE” mixed bbq platter states “ a generous … ( GENEROUS) assortment of grilled meats, typically including seekh kebabs, chicken tikka , and malai boti cooked over charcoal , accompanied by traditional Indian spices and herbs .
I will attach a picture of this “ Large “ tray of mixed bbq platter. I am beyond disappointed in how misleading the description is. I was hoping that the amount of food would be equivalent or similar to the amount of biryani I ordered … especially for the steep price of $74.99. This is robbery . I was baffled . I called and gave benefit of doubt and assumed I received the wrong order . The person on the phone mentioned in all his 6 months of working there he has never had such a complain which I find very hard to believe. The LARGE tray included 2 chicken tandoori legs , one skewer of bihari boti and one skewer each of malai boti and tandoori boti ? I think & 4 kebabs which are probable 2 chicken 2 beef . I even went to the point of cross referencing with other Pakistani Indian restaurants for the price of their bbq platters and NOTHING comes close to this price for this amount of food. It should also be noted that most places give a description of how many of each skewers or peices of meat are included in the order. Rambo’s did no such thing … such a vague, deceitful and misleading description. I’m honestly so...
