With delivery I had a 60.00 order tonight, Im not rich so that’s a lot of money to me. I had 1 small fattoush which was nothing like a true fattoush. It basically was a tossed salad with lettuce carrots tomato onion, no pita chips and a little bottled greek dressing. A real fattoush should have lettuce tomato cucumber olive oil, fresh lemon juice, pita chips and sumac and some salt. Please learn how to make an authentic fattoush. Because Uber made another stop before us, all of our shawarmas were almost cold. Do these drivers not heat their cars? They should have proper bags to keep the food warm! This isn’t the first time. So when you have to heat your shawarma of course it gets soggy. So I’m eating a shawarma that didn’t taste like the authentic pure garlic, tahini and humus, it tasted like too much of some garlicky dressing, we really didn’t like it, which made my shawarma even more soggy. There was hot sauce on there which I never order that burnt my mouth and then I literally couldn’t taste anything for an hour, so again I was not able to enjoy my shawarma. The last complaints I had was how many peices of dried right out peices of chicken were in my shawarma. I have had tons of shawarmas and I’m fully aware that the chicken browns and is cut off, but this was the chicken off the bottom of the spit type of quality, mixed with the normal peices. I have a pic, I would had to of pulled the rest out of the my mouth when I bit into it to show you the rest. The other thing I didn’t care for was their pita shell, It may have been homemade but it was more like a crepe, flimsy and not put under the the sandwich press to make it nice and crisp. Lastly instead of having shredded lettuce it had a couple of lettuce leafs which go soggy and grated carrots, you should never have grated carrots in them. Lastly I wish I had taken a pic of the sandwich, it was half the amount they show in their pictures, it was flat instead of full and round. My son recommended Shelby’s on Horton but my friend found a large insect leg in her food at that location. So I tried a different location hoping it would be good, and I will never return. This seems to be yet another Restaurant putting a Canadian spin on another countries dishes and it is far from being authentic, not even close I’m afraid. So Shelby’s and Uber will be off my list of go too’s unless you like delivery that can’t keep your food warm and Mediterranean food that...
Read moreI was pleasantly surprised with this spot! I was in a rush but did not want the traditional fast food sooo, we decided ti run through the Shelby’s drive thru.
First of all, I do not have much to compare too with this meal but I hope to help you with your choice regardless. When you’re in a rush drive thru is helpful. I did love that they had that option at this location and did not wait too long but long enough to know they had to cook something, which can be a good sign - we all want fast but sometimes the fastest food we receive is the worst!
I loved the box my meal came in. It was bright, catchy and I appreciated the message in the box. I ordered the traditional bites box which comes with a traditional chicken wrap cut into 6 pieces - you can choose beef too. I loved this box set up for car eating!! It came with french fries, pickles and turnips, coleslaw and a sauce of choice….I choose garlic sauce - it was delicious.
The meal was hot! Appreciate that, thanks. The portion was fair and it was a very filling meal, I could not finish the fries! The wrap was balanced and loaded with flavour. There were french fries within the wrap too. It was around 20$ for the box and a drink which seemed a TAD bit steep but again, it tasted fresh and was filling.
The service at the window was good, she was kind - nothing major stood out although, the iPad they use, could use a good cleaning, in my opinion. Tons of parking space was a plus.
I gave 3 stars as I did not go inside so cannot speak to the restaurant or service/staff. I also have only been once, and believe in consistency. Let’s hope it’s just as delicious the second...
Read moreMy 30 min wait/takeout experience. I'm not sure what to say here, but once again I'm disappointed with the quality of Shelby's food and service. I've done it before and I'll do it again, I'll make my own from now on. The garlic sauce is all I need. Which I will buy, sure, but I gotta say, putting the bulk of the sauces in one bottle is a huge mistake, i'm talking about the shwarma fries here. Back in the day when it all started for me on Horton Street, tasteing each sauce individually made each bite unique, something yummy that you'd want in your tummy. And the garlic sauce use to be scooped on, something you would gaze at through the sneeze guard, but now it's a couple small drizzles of disappointment.
Chaotic environment too, 4 people scrambling to make orders, the organization and direction nowhere to be found. I sat there texting my wife, giving her a play by play of what I was witnessing.
Expanding a business is important, but after trying multiple locations throughout the city, it is evident that quality and origination is no longer the goal Shelby once delivered to its hungry customers.
Also had a Shish wrap and traditional bites. No go on both, the chicken on this shish wrap just tasted off. As if I was tasting the heat not the meat, a king of the hill reference here but it left this odd natural gas flavor in your mouth. Traditional bites, the chicken was dry unfortunately, all these places opening up they have resorted to a cafeteria style servicing, where they make a bulk of food, throw it in a hot plate area and just let it dry out before being served....
