Fantastic bakery!! My brother-in-law (a chef) and sister were visiting from BC in the summer and of course he was searching out 'good' places to go while in Ontario. He found you and introduced me to this wonderful, local-to-me, pick-up-and-go bakery. (Outdoor picnic tables in good weather.) Before Christmas I heard from my friend in Toronto with whom I generally spend holidays, that yet again she was having trouble finding German Stollen. I decided to check with you and indeed you had it!! A small or large loaf (large of course!) and my friend said it's the best she's had in YEARS. I'm allergic to nuts however I can pick them out so I just ate 'around' the nuts. And even the masipam was perfect - no reaction to that at all. (Although I didn't eat a lot of that part.)

I am delighted to have found a wonderful bakery where I can find the sorts of things that are sometimes hard to find, and the things that are common and yet at Small Scale Bakery they are made with uncommon talent and taste sooo much better than the ordinary.

Thank you to all the bakers, cashiers, dishwashers, cleaners, admin, and managers (noting that many of you may play multiple roles), and the customers that have kept Smale Scale Bakery going! May 2024 be excellent...

Gorgeous airy space with delicious food and a beautiful selection of products. The cardamom bun is soft, flavourful and not too sweet. The Danish pastry was light and flaky as it should be, and again the filling was really well balanced (not goopy or overly sweet.) Coffee was solid and complimented the treats nicely. Have yet to try the bread, but they all looked perfectly shaped with crusts that you want to tear open. Will definitely try next time. (One thing I wish they had was a slicer though, as cutting artisanal bread at home can be a bit annoying.) In terms of their product selection they have some lovely offerings for yourself or a nice gift for someone. We bought a Kinto thermos which is super slick and minimal. They also have a small selection of Heath Ceramics mugs from San Francisco which are beautiful. Floral bouquets by Dahlia May (a local florist with a more contemporary style) were also available - among many other unique and tasty things. SSB is definitely a welcome addition to Belleville, and will be a regular stop for us whenever...

Ever since my first visit last year, I have stopped by on every Saturday I could to buy a loaf of Country White Sourdough bread. If I know in advance that my schedule won't allow me to go on an upcoming Saturday, I'll get two loaves since they freeze so well! The introduction of the bread slicer has also been super convenient. My guilty pleasure here is their superb almond croissants; Small Scale makes an excellent frangipane filling and when I can't justify treating myself I'll settle for just a croissant itself as it's a star on its own. Having tasted had an array of their delectable treats, I have found no faults and loved every bite. My only wish is that they would make their delicious pizza available on weekends since I can never make it there on a weekday lunch time. Never change...

A hidden gem of Belleville. I live in San Francisco and stopped by this bakery en route to Toronto because it opened at 8am normal Bakery time instead of 10am like the rest of the bakeries. Gosh what a perfect loaf of sourdough, rivaling the best of SF! Crispy yet chewy crust with soft and moist inside. The cookies were flavorful and chewy. We bought a few other pastries just to try because they looked so good. They were all wonderful. A very legit “big city” bakery in a small town/small city. Their drink department could use improvement though. I’d say they are a great bakery but not a cafe yet. Highly recommend if you want bread loaves and bake goods.

I am from Toronto but my parents live in The County and mentioned this bakery to me, being a fan of sourdough bread i had to try. I pre-ordered, which i highly recommend, came in and it was ready to go….ordered a loaf of sour dough bread, a pizza square and a couple chocolate chip cookies. The pizza square was thick but the texture was soft and chewy, very tasty as was the chocolate chip cookie. The bread is very nice, firstly a good size, chewy and delicious…had toasted with peanut butter. Highly recommend giving this place a try…a great addition to the Belleville area.

This is a very niche place, both figuratively and literally (it's tucked away in an industrial looking yard). It's so small that they have a schedule for what bread is baked what day - for instance, Fridays are currently cinnamon & raisin as well as olive bread. Worth a peak.
