Read moreif you're looking for authentic true syrian style shawerma, this is the place. They got the x factor. Before Shelby's no shawerma store used to use saj bread which is insane since that's all they use in the mideast. Once shelby's opened and used saj bread and the authentic ingredients (garlic, pickles, and fries only) they became #1 shawerma in southwestern ontario. Obviously all other shawerma shops started imitating the saj and ingredients but Shelby's quality was still higher. Before trying the shawerma at sultan's pizza i thought shelby's got it right and there's nothing better besides back in mideast. I was wrong, I had frogotten the true aroma and taste of a syrian shawerma and sultan's pizza had captured it for me. It's a much simpler sandwich with less pizzaz than shelby's but it's literally like you're eating in Damascus. I'd love to know their secret. They're the best shawerma I've had in north America with the exception of Mississauga.
As far as the non-arabs commenting how they don't get what's authentic about it and that it doesn't taste good. I don't blame them, because from the dawn of arab immigration, they've been introduced to shawerma that's in a pita and that has lettuce and tomatoes and onions in it (yuck) and so when you introduce the true authentic sandwich to them years later, their pallet and taste has already been set to that disaster and they can't unlearn it. This applies to a lot of westernized versions of authentic food, if you had the authentic version you might...

(2025/06/23) It took me almost 20 minutes today to get a small Beef Shawarma and 10 pieces of Falafel, when I was in a hurry. It was not even a busy period, but the staff here seemed to get used to their usual "efficiency". They started to fry the Falafel 10 minutes after I placed my order, almost the time I thought I should already receive all my foods. As a small place selling street foods, this level of efficiency is way below par. I mean even in a proper restaurant, waiting 20 minutes for your foods is too long.
However, the food quality was still decent. Homemade Falafel with authentic taste, the best that I have ever tasted in Canada. Unlike the large Shawarma Wraps that use a traditional flatbread, the small ones use a special flatbread that is much thinner. I know it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I do like this special design because it emphasises the taste of the inner fillings, pretty delicious.
