Visited the Lark last night for a late dinner and drinks with some friends. First impression was how beautiful the space was - understated modern style in blonde wood with lots of great decorative touches. We sat at the bar, with a view of the small but mighty kitchen. The staff were all very friendly, and Alex made every effort to understand what sort of drinks we wanted before curating a selection for us. The Lark is known already for having great and creative cocktails, but I was particularly impressed with their selection of beers. I ordered a Collective Arts sour, but Alex opened up a Duchess of Bourgogne for me to taste first - it was so delicious I just drank it instead of my original order!
The food is tapas-style, so they are small-to-medium plates/portions, best enjoyed when shared among a group. We had the green salad, the trout ceviche, the steak tartare, the water buffalo carpaccio and the charcuterie board. Every single dish was beautifully presented and delicious. Great elemental flavours, not overly busy or trying to do too much - outstanding meal! My favourite was the steak tartare - hand chopped tender steak with olive oil, garlic and capers, served with crostinis. The best!
The Lark is a great place to meet up with friends for drinks and a light meal, and offers an experience that feels very metropolitan in many ways, while still having the welcoming atmosphere that one would expect from the Friendly City. A must try...
Read moreA nice quiet date night out, we were happy to enjoy it at The Lark. The food simply delicious. Not too overcomplicated that you sometimes come to expect from food that looks so beautiful. Being not too hungry; we shared the carpaccio, lobster roll and gnocchi. The carpaccio was simple with arugula and parm, tasty and mild. We asked for some bread to eat it with. I've actually never had a lobster roll, but now I'm sure I will seek them out. The bun was incredibly soft, and maybe pan butter fried(?) on the outside, very lightly. It was fresh, the dill, tarragon(?), celery gave a crisp freshness to the buttery lobster roll. The gnocchi, described as a staple, was actually that. It wasn't the brown butter I was used too, it was so creamy and flavourful, I'm sure many would lick the sauce off the bowl (that's probably why they give you a spoon). Maybe not a traditional gnocchi but definitely tasted hand crafted, freshly made. The owner who we also got the pleasure of talking to and explaining the menu to us was very kind, patient and friendly. We will be back and would...
Read moreWent here for the first time on a Thursday evening with a reservation. Small restaurant and bar. Casual fine dining. Food contemporary with an Italian tilt. Small menu but something for everyone. Items can be ordered individually or as part of a prix fixe menu for $55pp. We opted for the latter. Note that the menu online is not the same as what we had at the restaurant. The dishes we had included a tomato and peach caprese salad, salmon fish cakes, beef cheek pappardalle and shortrib wellington and finally blueberry ricotta cake. The food was well prepared and tasty with a but. The beef cheek in the pasta was shredded and as I stated to the owner, if I had not been told what it was, I would not have known. The shortrib wellington was deconstructed and was braised shortribs with a small slice of puff pasty on top. One of us stated she would have liked more pastry. Fully licensed. I thought the 7 oz wine pour to be expensive ($17 - 21). Has a BYOB liquor license ($30 corkage). Service was friendly and attentive. Would...
