I haven’t dined in at Lagos Kitchen, but I ordered via Uber Eats—and unfortunately, I can’t recommend this restaurant.
I placed the order under the mistaken impression that I was ordering from a different Nigerian restaurant that had been recommended by a friend. Sadly, it became clear very quickly that I’d made a mistake.
Here’s what I ordered: Jollof Rice and Turkey, Fried Rice and Turkey, three pieces of Moi Moi, three Meat Pies, and Afang Soup with Poundo Yam.
The Positives: • The Afang Soup and Poundo were actually quite decent—especially by Canadian standards. • The meat pies were enjoyable and carried a touch of nostalgia. • The Jollof Rice was okay.
The Negatives: • The turkey that came with the Jollof and fried rice was extremely stale—borderline rotten—and completely inedible. • The Fried Rice tasted like a soggy concoction made from overcooked white rice. It was not only poorly executed but also unappetizing and inedible. • The Moi Moi looked and tasted like a failed science experiment. While I commend the chef’s spirit of innovation, experimental recipes should probably remain in the test kitchen until they’re ready for commercial release.
Overall, I would have rated this a 1-star experience. However, thanks to the Afang Soup, the smooth Poundo, the Jollof Rice, and the comforting meat pies, I’m giving it 2 stars. Also all the meals came piping hot, that...
Read moreThis place embodies the best and worst of Nigeria in one shot. The food, the options and the quality of meal is passable to excellent, and generally excellent with the staples like jollof and what not.
The issue is the service. I’ve never personally experienced the rudeness directly but if you’re ordering online from Uber or skip, reconsider your life and your choices.
80% of my orders are cancelled, late or wrong which forces me to consider other Nigerian options in the area, and that in and of itself is wild.
As someone who’s had this place on their radar for 3+ years, I hope this review serves as a wake up call. To be totally clear, it’s not that the place is bad, it’s just that you need to consider, what is your time and hunger worth, and is there a faster and more convenient option because more often than not cooking it yourself or getting it from somewhere else like I’m about to do as I write this review, is likely a better way to...
Read moreUseless food! I've never bought food that annoyed me so much. Served me a big bony chicken bum that took up space in the small bowl of soup with burnt and VERY hard tasteless meat. So now I'm expected to eat soup without protein?? The taste of the soup doest even make up for it. I called to complain and as usual with some Nigerian restaurants they think that saying 'sorry' makes up for it. When I called back to speak to the owner or customer service in owner's absence, I hear that apparently I've been speaking to customer service all this time who could only offer 'sorry'. If I ordered this dish in any decent restaurant, the least I would expect is a REPLACEMENT of my meal. Don't tell me sorry after I've paid you over $50 for a lousy meal I waited over an hour to be delivered by Uber. You either replace it or give me my money back. I'm mad enough to drive all the way to Oshawa to bring your food back to...
