African BBQ House — Restaurant in Ottawa

I couldn’t start this review for a while because I didnt know how to give 0 stars. If they were ever good they needed to rehire who did well in this job. I’m Dominican that is not plantains . We are known not just for this but are mulatto and have African roots in our descent where we shared no commonalities in what u cook. Ur chicken can smell great even to me and taste good for people who can’t cook when they were starving enough to like it passed 0 stars, but they can’t they do that. As thought it was the coveted part of all your meals, the vegetables in it when salad came in it was soggy and wilted in sauce and the rest was also a pinch of veg with dumb carrots or some gross heightened yet inflator cabbage I thought was potatoes at least for the rice that came aldente and a chicken that like I first posted smelled better then it came: drenched in butter and lard as their msg for u to come back. The yelllow school bus who runs this now had nothing to do with the owners that ever if they did made this place great. The chicken they sell is as I said entirely buttered and barely flavourful and burnt flavored instead. Only some of the reason why everything I said was wrong was because of their 2 hour delivery time that made it more apparent that their food is first amateur and second should be kept at their home because the number one flavour was butter . If u wanna get fat for unacalled for reasons of your own just because u thought they may be good , go ahead and u won’t be pleased to the point ull go to McDonald’s and should have it better . The worst I would say is the refute of anyone working there except when u place ur order and being a girl myself it was only because I either had the “owner guy” or another guy accept my order which was the greatest customer service. The rest who were girls interrupted how I was waiting over an hour refusing to help me, and was primarily rude for refuting the business logically at the wait time which she made nothing better but to deny it was true and not bend for a new customer In any way as though she was taking charge and had better reasons to call it an angry customer when I was just saying logical things about the time in 3 calls I placed and them saying the driver just walked out and is going to u. And then found out by the owner there was an incident with cops a client called for during a delivery as their excuse to me for not being able to call in 2 hours where I couldn’t make any delivery order anywhere at that time. Please Don’t go if u frankly had a joint or are drinking heavily as u see many skewed reviews and if u go on to their lowest reviews , please check how the owner responds in general and to a guy named nick at one point, it is absolutely their true nature run from the management down. This place is run by little school girls and they do treat some certain people better , if ur a girl served at any means by another girl there even through the phone u will be disgusted as they’ll try to get all your order wrong and it’s literally, literally 80% of their problem. The worst is customer service , secondarily that shouldn’t be is their food is nothing close to a good smoke house , they taught 10 yr olds to work there and that’s who’s there now. If u can’t cook chicken , or u want anything else from there get farm boys or loblaws chicken , it’s the same for less grade salad it comes with , rice or whatever other stupid veg they also disgraced. This is long because it was that much a shameful while they were shameless like their famous somewhere...

Where do I even begin? This place has fallen off a cliff and is still rolling downhill. It used to be solid, but now it’s like they’re playing a game of “how low can we go” with their quality. Spoiler alert: they’re winning.

Let’s talk ingredients. They change so often, it’s like the menu is trying to beat my Apple Music playlist for variety. First, the salad. It was kale, then cabbage and lettuce, and now it’s spring mix? What’s next, a handful of grass from the parking lot?

The rice….Once fluffy, fresh, and tasty, now it’s giving day old vibes. Dry, hard, clumpy, and cold, like it’s been cooked by someone who actively hates rice. Honestly, even a college dorm microwave produces better results.

And the plantains. I’d love to say they’re a highlight, but that would be a lie. They’re either undercooked or taste like they were picked straight off the tree five minutes ago. Whether it’s winter, summer, they’re consistently unripe.

The chicken? A coin toss. Heads, it’s good . Tails, it’s dry, tasteless, and feels like it’s been sitting in the back next to the rice. Costco rotisserie chicken is running laps around this stuff, and those cost less than a fancy coffee.

The one saving grace is the salad dressing. Props to whoever’s keeping that consistent, it’s the glue barely holding this mess together.

Bottom line: this place is a shadow of its former self. No veggies with the rice, lower-quality everything, and vibes worse than a grocery store cafeteria. If you’re thinking of trying it, save yourself the disappointment and hit up Costco instead, you’ll leave happier and with...

I've always wanted to try African food so today I drove all the way from Montreal to try this halal bbq place. I was beyond happy to have encountered Derek. He was SO friendly & his customer service was on point! I know it's unethical to mention competition, but I was about to try another place that was closer to downtown Ottawa, but decided to drive 16kms out to try this bbq house instead all because the customer service and quality reviews were better. The extra drive was SOOOO worth it for the service and food that I got! I ordered a whole chicken & a quarter chicken combo today. I chose to go with the fries instead of plantain. The fries were a bit bitter (I'm assuming the oil must have been from this weekend) BUT It's definitely not worth taking off a star for. I believe constructive criticism is key when running a business & also, bad days happen. I'm sure this was just an off day for that. Chicken was smokey, juicy & very tasty! Portions were very generous! I wish that I had tried more off of the menu, but I get skeptical when trying new places. The rice was very flavourful. I wish that the salad was placed separately because the steam from the chicken made it a tad bit soggy by the time I parked the car to eat.
