I have walked in that store about 3 times. First visit- it was ok, first time walking in and it is a new establishment so wasn't expecting much. The owner had a very aggressive approach which I did not like but bought some sweets and they tasted good, no complaints (on the sweets).
Second visit- Went in with my friend we were feeling something sweet, we were looking around and she bought something, I started craving something else so I did not buy anything and he looked at me and said " you walk into a store and you're not going to buy anything?" I was taken back and I just laughed it off and we left.
Third visit- walked in to get some knafeh and asked the lady how much each sandwich was because I am a frequent flyer at La Brioche or Le Roi on bank street and I just did not feel like driving that far so I stopped at the closest place ( wasn't my first choice). The lady told me they were about $7.50 each sandwich; which if you buy from Lebanese bakeries around the city you'd know it shouldn't be more than $6 MAXIMUM. I said wow that is expansive, and then she looked at me weird and asked is this your first time here I replied with a "no, but that is pretty expansive." Then I just kindly said oh I can find it cheaper else where it's okay thank you while she continued to look at me weird as if I was cheap. I am not cheap but I will not be taken for a fool with my hard earned money. As I am walking away I hear him in arabic saying " what what happened what's her problem?" and the lady responded with whatever she explained and he kind of just went " pfftt", as if he's been around for forever and is well known around the city. (the tray of knafeh was still full and it was already around 1 pm, which should tell you something)
Coming from a person (Me) who owns a family owned restaurant and has been in customer service for over 11 years, waitressing and so on and so forth, I would suggest you get off your high horse with thinking you have the best establishment and treat the customers who walk into your store with respect because I have also spoken to others about this place and I get the same feedback, that you have an aggressive approach with your customers and have an I don't care personality. Look around and all you'll see is empty chairs and tables. Maybe if you were more welcoming and less rude, you'd get more customers. Your place is a last resort when La brioche and Le Roi do not have what I need.
I truly hope you do better....

Read moreAfter going there countless times, we had an experience that has left a sour taste in our mouths. We ordered a box of cookies, and showed the server exactly which ones we wanted while describing them too. At the time she seemed distracted, but so were we as we picked out other treats. She sealed the $20.00 box of cookies without confirming our order and we didnt think too much of it, and left the establishment. Upon opening our fast, and taking time to enjoy these treats, we came to find that only 2 cookies were correct and the rest were wrong.
Mistakes happen, and we are extremely understanding of that. However, when we called Baklawa King stores, the lady put us on hold and abruptly closed the line, this could have been an accident, so we called again, the phone. Sure, and the person again disconnected the line.
After working a tiresome day, we returned to the shop to ask for the correct order. The lady who served us said that's what we picked and had a defensive attitude, lol.. The other lady got up and said, " okay, fine, I'll give you what you want. We offered to return these cookies as they were untouched, to which they declined (fair). Her tone and voice, though raised in an attempt to alert other patrons that we were trying to get free cookies or something? That we were causing trouble? She kept repeating " I can't take these back, I'll give you what you want". Way to make people feel like a criminal or make it look like we're harassing you over cookies lol.
The servers exchanged terrible attitudes and dirtiest looks as we left the establishment. There were no apologies offered. I agree with another comment here that said the staff was rude and snobby, they got it spot on.
Like I said before, mistakes happen, and that's not an issue, but how they are handled speaks volumes about an individual and their establishment. Cheers on driving away...
