This was our first time ordering from this place. Overall, food was great for the price, and food was ready when they said it would be ready. My favourite was the fried beef with Chinese greens. Beef was tender and beggies were fresh. Next is the house special with mixed veggies. Again, veggies were fresh and great flavour. The Kung Pao chicken could be spicier. I am not sure if we can request to make it spicier but it would have been much better if it was (might just be my preference). We are not a fan of the hot and sour soup. Very different than what we are used to. We found it salty and almost has a burnt taste. We also got the egg rolls and those were great! Thin, crispy shell and full, meaty filling! We will definitely be back but will skip the soup next time.

Portion sizes for the combos are great, no complaints. However, I ordered the yang chow fried rice and I was very disappointed. Firstly, it was like they just took their regular fried rice and added the other ingredients, I've never seen yang chow fried rice this colour. Secondly, there were only 3 pieces of shrimp throughout the entire dish. The fork is there because I went digging hoping I’d find more... I didn't 👎🏾 They have a higher price point than a lot of other Chinese restaurants, so I was disappointed to only get 3 pieces of shrimp in a plate that cost $13+ They could also work on their customer service. Despite all that, they are one of the better Chinese food spots I've tasted in Ottawa.

Very disappointed! Today we ordered vegetable chop suey ($10.30) and chicken fried rice ($8.50) with steamed rice and spring rolls. The vegetable chop suey was 99.9% of bean sprouts. There were a couple of small and extremely thin pieces of celery and carrots, and it's texture was so watery. It should be a thicker source. This was like they packed bean sprouts in hot water. The chicken fried rice was just rice with soy sauce with pieces of bland chicken. There was hardly anything else. I found one tiny piece of green onion, and a trace of egg. You can see the photos of the food we got. Not worth the money at all. We certainly won't recommend this place.

I love China Star. Great portion sizes, delicious food, fast service, great prices, and an all around great place for Chinese food. I recommend the fried chicken wings and the beef and broccoli as those are my favourites. My parents love the fried chicken wings as well, definitely some of the best in town. As for the beef and broccoli, the beef is tender and cooked to perfection, pairing it with broccoli makes it a great combo. I would definitely come here again.
