This review has been updated with more visits further down First visit: I ordered 3 different pies. The first, spinach and feta. The second, feta green onion and tomato. The third, za'atar and veg.
The spinach and feta was disappointing. The bread was overcooked and there was less spinach than I expected. The flavour of the filling is delicious, though. Lemony and salty and creamy with the spinach was satisfying.
The za'atar and veg is simple, salty and flavourful. I think my only complaint is it feels like there's a lot of bread relative to vegetables, but it's all covered in za'atar and delicious, and it feels to me like a fairly generous size.
The feta, green onion, and tomato pie was made fresh and was absolutely phenomenal. Creamy and oniony and saucy cooked tomato filling left me quite happy. The size was very generous, I wasn't able to finish one in a single sitting after taking a couple bites from the other two.
The service was exceptional. Stopping by at 7:30 in the morning, the person that served me was jovial and kind, and really helped set the tone for a positive day. I'll definitely be back to try other pies, if only for the good start to a morning.
Additional visits: I've gone back several times and service was always just as good. I've tried a number of other pies and I must say they all have their draws.
The chicken and cheese was mild, filled with vegetable, chicken, and cheese. The flavour was inoffensive and tasted very much of, well, chicken. It did feel a little under seasoned, but it comes together as a nice and filling meal.
The Akkawi cheese pie was a real surprise. Akkawi is an unripened firm, brined, cheese. It tastes almost exactly like the "tortillons" string cheese knots I grew up loving that comes in a glass jar and brine. Having this cheese warmed through on a piece of fresh bread felt great, a blast from the past. They also sell this cheese from their fridge, and if I didn't have a pound of feta at home waiting to be used I'd definitely get some.
The shanklish is made with their onion and tomato blend mixed with a type of sour cheese that is probably an acquired taste. I enjoyed it as a novelty, but I think it gets overwhelming past the halfway mark and think it's a pie better shared. Still absolutely worth trying if you like sour cheeses, it was quite good.
The kishek was the same veggie blend, but was exceptionally creamy. From what I understand it's made with bulgur fermented in yogourt, which is why it has such a soft and creamy texture. This is in my top 3 pies. I highly recommend it if you like cheesy vegetables on soft bread.
Next on my list to try: cream cheese and olive, sojouk and cheese, potato and meat, and...
Read moreThe establishment has opened very recently. The place looks very new, clean and very warm considering the ovens. It has dried nuts and traditional snacks along with pastries and ofcourse meat pies, veggie, cheese etc Small interior for dine in with two tables. I ordered 2 chix n cheese, a meat pie and a zataar that came to 17.75 total. It was very filling with half chix leftover. They were all made hot and were filling. The ratio of ingredients to bread was very generous. It was worth the money I paid for... There is nothing to awe and be surprised as it is simply another meat pie and bakery. It was good quality and it is a good addition to the neighborhood. Also it is all Halal too. It is defonetly...
Read moreAmazing experience, very friendly staff. The pies are very fresh and delicious tasting. They have a massive variety of options to choose from, whether it’s drinks or the food. I got their meat and cheese with spices and lemon which was scrumptious. I would definitely recommend this place. It’s a 5/5...
