I have been going to Mexigo Cabana for about 4-5 years now. I found them at their old location at Bank and Walkley, and ever since I have been hooked.
Utility: One of my favourite things about Mexigo Cabana is how well thought out the food design is. For example, with their tacos, they add tortilla chips in the bottom, so when inevitably you lose some ingredients from inside of the Taco, you are able to scoop them up with tortilla chips, giving you a taco salad at the bottom. They also include a fork to help with this. They also come with lime slices and both Mild and Medium hot sauces, which are excellent. These are the little details they add to all their dishes that make this truck stand out. I challenge you to find a dish here that does not think of the little details. The containers for dips are always the right size to dip into and contain enough product to enjoy with a meal The packaging makes it easy to save the rest for later
Food: Tacos: The tacos here are excellent. The meat is well cooked, seasoned, but not overpowering. The added ingredients are always in an order that discourages messes, however, it is a taco so eat over the container. As mentioned above, anything dropped from the taco into the bottom of the container becomes a salad with their tortilla chips at the bottom Quesabirria: I have been looking for an authentic Mexican Birria for years in Ottawa. This is a challenge as I have only located two other places in the city that serve it, and when they do it is with a house marinade that is made with accessible chilis in Canada. I was thrilled to see that Mexigo Cabana had just started serving Birria a couple of weeks ago. I was not disappointed to try it. The Birria is potentially one of the greatest things I have tasted in a long time. The Consomé is excellent. I can not believe just how good the Birria is. It is also what I believe is Ottawa's first authentic Birria Taco. Chips: Since I first started going to Mexigo Cabana, I have ordered a couple bags of their chips which make great snacks with their hot sauce. Hot Sauces: I am a big fan of their Mild, Medium, and Ghost Pepper Hot Sauces. These sauces are strong, but flourish with flavour. My personal favourite in terms of flavour is the Mild. My favourite in terms of mouth-feel and profile is the Medium. Nachos Grande: They are simply fantastic. When I come here with family, one of them usually gets the Nachos Grande. It is a very substantial portion, and I am always able to convince my family member to give me their leftovers when they finish. The Nachos Grande with Beef are simply amazing, served with their own Pico, House Guac, and Sour Cream. Taco Salad: One of the standouts about the salad is it's shell. The Tortilla shell is incredibly well cooked and flavorful. The salad provides an appropriate portion and quality for the price. The interior ingredients are incredibly well picked. Jarritos: Simply the best drink to have with Mexigo Cabana. I prefer the Mexican Cola from Jarritos, but there is a wide variety available there
Location: Located in the West End, the location is no longer as ideal as their first location that was central to Ottawa, however, this is through no fault of their own. The new location is a couple minutes off of the 417, making the commute a little easier.
It's physical location is great with ample parking and spots to eat outside.
Service: Friendly and passionate. The owner of Mexigo Cabana is incredibly passionate about what he does, and is always willing to describe what makes his food authentic why he believes in making such high-quality food. The food is what makes you want to eat here, and the service will make you want to come back.
Specific Standouts: Utility Beef Tacos Chips + Hot Sauce Quesabirria Tacos
There is so much more I could rave about. I just simply don't have the space to write any more!

Read moreToday for the first time to eat at Mexigo and was disappointed. I ordered 2 orders of Flautes and 2 orders of Gorditas. I lived 17 years in Mexico. It cosy me 54.00 dollars for the food. In my order in stead of giving me my 2 orders of Gordon's, I was given two salads in a tortilla shell with lettuce, guacamole, sour cream and a tad bit of I believe chilli. Gorditas is made with ground corn becoming a masa and to make the shell you taje a ball if the ground corn and you place it in a hand prenza and then brown it with an oil of your choice until the shell is golden brown and then remove and let cool off. Once cooled off you taje a sharp object and make an opening on the side of each browned gordita. You can fill them with carne con chilli neuro, minced ground beef to your flavor and then add shredded lettuce, sour cream, shredded cheese (optional) and a suculant salsa made with real chilli....
My sons asked for flautes because they missed the food in Mexico. I asked for 2 orders of each. In each order I was given 3 flour tortillas with shredded chicken rolled up like a cigar ( so far ok). The only problem is, the order was not complete. Flutes were are as I was given (3 flour or corn tortillas with chicken, rolled up like a cigar) on top of the flutes you add shredded cheese, sour cream and then the suculant salsa of your choice. I was disappointed in not taking home my two order of flutes for my sons like they are made in Mexico. I do not know if this was intentional in possibly assuming I wouldn't know the difference and if no one has said anything its because they are not aware how authentic Mexican food is prepared.
I will say the Mexican salad was ok, but not for what I paid.
I truly have no comment on this location, I won't...
Read moreThe best chicken tacos you’ll get in Ottawa!
This truck used to be located across the street from us but sadly moved across the city. Now we need to make plans to have our favourite tacos ever, but it’s always worth it.
Their taco Tuesday deal is honestly unbeatable. Everything is fresh and authentic and they are so warm and passionate about their food. They are also open most of the year!
Most times when we go we have received a complimentary tortilla soup, once we got to try the chili. I loved both so much I’ve steadily tried to recreate them the same way at home with sadly limited results. Their hot sauces are also delicious!
Recently they added birria to the menu which I tried and it was also delicious but I still think I prefer the chicken tacos! You don’t often see hard shells in Mexican restaurants I find but I love those in contrast to the sauces, shredded chicken, fresh salsa and cheese! Plus they always include some extra tortillas and lettuce in the takeout box so anything that falls out turns into a lovely little taco salad for the end.
Pro tip: best enjoyed right there at the picnic tables so that they are still crunchy, travelling with these will result in the salsa softening the shells!
Forever hoping these guys make a return to...
