Mama Mai Vietnamese Kitchen — Restaurant in Ottawa

Well! Let me begin by saying how I NEVER post/review anything online but I just had to today. Coming from out of town (small city), my husband and I love to come to Ottawa to enjoy authentic food(s). During a shopping trip to Bayshore Mall, we stumble upon this gem of a spot. What first began as a simple Passion Fruit Iced Tea (which was so so so refreshing) as I was doing laps around the mall, turned into myself having one of the best sandwiches of my life! While waiting for my drink, I could see ppl huddled around trying some samples and thought: “Now, what is this about? That is when the a-ha moment came for me! I sampled a scrumptious caramelized pork sandwich and some Candy Cane Iced Coffee. Now, not necessarily being hungry at the moment, I asked the owner if he would be there a bit later too, as I wished to take one with me for the car ride back home. Nearly running out of sandwiches of this flavour, he put one aside for me to be toasted and put together when I returned! As promised, when I returned, after speaking with him for a bit and reviewing other items on the menu, I left with this delightful, tasty, fresh (insert any positive adjective here for food in fact), cozily and securely wrapped (on a cushion of “mattress-like” napkins) in a take out bag; ready for the ride home! It’s located in a semi-isolated location in the mall (by Marks/Sportchek) but TOTALLY worth the trip. So worth it, in fact, I’ll literally come to Bayshore only for these sandwiches. Only reason atmosphere isn’t 5star is because I can see where it might be a little weird to eat them in the mall sofa areas while shopping. But they’re hand held, so maybe it’s fine.

As for the sandwiches, light and crispy crust, super soft on the inside. I get them to go to eat at home, so getting toasted makes them better for travel.

Classic has great balance of meat/sauce/veggies ratio. The curry chicken special was so delicious, very saucy and fragrant with abundant crunchy veggies to add texture.

Excited to try the other varieties next time.

Service is super friendly, so happy they opened… haven’t been as impressed by other bahn mi’s I’ve tried in Ottawa. I hope everyone gets to try these delicious sandwiches.

My recent visit to Mama Mai Banh Mi left me thoroughly impressed. The banh mi sandwich I indulged in was a true delight, boasting a perfect balance of flavors and notably fresh ingredients.

Yet what truly stood out was the impeccable customer service. The staff were not only welcoming but also went above and beyond to ensure a great food experience. The attentiveness and friendly demeanor added an extra layer of enjoyment to my sandwich.

My only comment is that this store is on the second floor and needs an area with picnic tables to eat at. Come on Bayshore, assist this retail tenant out!

Regardless, with such a focus on freshness and exceptional service, Mama Mai Banh Mi has undoubtedly earned my repeat business. I highly recommend it to anyone craving delicious banh mi sandwiches served...
