A nice Italian gelato and pastry shop with a wide variety of items. All of the items we had were good, nothing being amazing or terrible.
Order: Baba Cream ($6.45 each) x1 Fried donut, soaked in sugary syrup filled with pastry cream Overly sweet
One Scoop Kinder Bueno Gelato ($6.95 each) x1 Sweet chocolate gelato with ground up bits of a Kinder Bueno bar in it Prominently a chocolate gelato The Kinder Bueno did not really come through
Medium Cappuccino ($6.25 each) x1 Clean tasting coffee with a slight burnt finish Not very acidic Standard foam, no latte art Fairly expensive for a cappuccino
Florentine Cookie ($3.95 each) x1 Average Florentine cookie Would have been better if it was freshly baked, since it would be chewier Caramel felt a bit thick
Smartie Chocolate Bar ($8.25 each) x1 Great quality milk chocolate Was a bit on the sweet end The Smarties gave the bar added texture
Red Velvet Brigadeiros ($2.45 each) x1 Tasted like a red velvet cake pop Very moist
Nutella Brigadeiros ($2.45 each) x1 Tasted like a very rich chocolate cake pop Slight nuttiness Very moist
Atmosphere and Site: A few indoor and outdoor tables Cozy interior
Service: The baked goods came out quickly The gelato and cappuccino came out separately a minute or so after we got...
Read moreThe place is one heck of a dessert shop! The first time I came here was with a local friend who had been here dozens of times and wanted to share his experience with me.
Everything they make looks top notch, no slouching. The people putting together the desserts really know what they're doing. The fruit tarts are colourful, fresh, and delicious. The cannolis are the best I've ever had (I'm no cannoli expert, but I always make sure to get a few when I go). The gelato is vibrant and delectable; they also have a nice selection of flavors to choose from.
Parking can be a pain, it's mostly only street parking like the majority of businesses off of Preston Street. They do have a few spots in behind that I believe you can use. There is also often a small line since this place is so popular. The inside can be a bit crowded, but they also have a small patio for seating. I will say, although the quality is definitely there, this shop is fairly expensive.
The staff has always been very friendly and helpful. I've thrown several questions at them and they always know the answer or where to find it. They hire a good bunch here, and they know their Italian desserts.
Overall I really like it. Good for stopping in after a dinner date, picking up on your way home from work, or for a fun...
Read moreNice place. Huge rip off.
Went in for some authentic sicilian cannoli and saw the prices. I almost choked before even taking a bite of anything. The smalls are the size of an adolescent's thumb. The "large" are what should be the small and they're $6 or more each. To add insult to injury, the lady told me they're made with ricotta and not mascarpone! Oy! So, we opted on two portugese Nadas (at an Italian bakery, I know!) and speaking of choking: the crust was unchewable. Nada means nothing, as in light and flakey, but for some mysterious reason, the pastry was dense, hard and leathery. The custard was watery! Absolutely abominable. I've honestly had better Nadas at Tim Hortons when then had them last winter. Like 10 times better!
Good thing I also purchased a one-scoop gelato, as this was the only redeeming purchase (ALMOST). The strawberry was delicious and very authentic in texture and quality. HOWEVER, for $8, they gave me a toddler's portion, no word of a lie! They must use one of those mini cookie dough scoopers because the portion was MINISCULE. What a disgrace to Little Italy. I hope they don't have any actual Sicilian connections because I might regret posting this brutally...
