It’s not smash daddy lol Used to be the spot. These days, depends who you get behind the counter and the food quality seems just as in inconsistent. When it’s at it’s best it’s competitive with top burgers in the city (not on par quite but competitive for sure); however this is 50/50 in recent times at best in my experience. Which sucks because this place and the original location were becoming staples of the city to a degree! Now others like smash daddy have stepped in and kinda taken that shine away.
But don’t take my word for it. You can check records online and see they were formerly listed as a “top eat” on uber eats in the city for example. That title is now gone while other establishments have kept their badges.
EDIT: Tried it again and asked for no toppings on my burger and see pic for what they heard this as 😂 the place is actually hard to describe hahaha slow pokes!
Edit 2 to their reply 😂 I simply implore anyone to go check the original location (umbrella bar lol), which was then spun into a new stand alone so they could try to ditch their falling reputation. Check if either has won any meaningful reviews of anything that makes this claim just made of being “the spot” validated in any way :-)
I’m sure your sales growth is fantastic guys, it’s deff why you’re expanded so much relative to your competition? (Smash daddy has opened how many spots in less years? How about Pearson street who just opened a second one Guess not quite as much growth as the competition even with first mover advantage from the og location on a waterfront.
Also for anyone reading this.. I own zero equity in any of these establishments, and simply hate subpar products and service in the market, and that has been my experience at this...
Read moreALWAYS CHECK YOUR CREDIT CARD AFTER PLACING AN ORDER ON THEIR GLITCHY SYSTEM!!!! All pictures attached!
We were there with a few friends and initially we placed an order and the order was not confirmed due to a glitch on their website, for that reason, we ended up placing the same order again (two minutes apart) that went through and we received order confirmation. When picking up the order we noticed that the order had been received by their system twice and we asked the manager on duty, Michael to cancel it, as that was accidentally placed. They told us that the duplicate order would be cancelled by the end of the day and we would receive the refund on our credit card, which never happened. We tried calling them a couple of times on the next following days to get the situation resolved and our money refunded, and they never got back to us, promises and promises of refunding our money, for that reason, we ended up filing a chargeback against our credit card and our credit card company temporarily refunded us. However, today we got a letter from our credit card saying that Umbrella Burger had provided documentation to support the double charge. I am attaching all the receipts, including the times and notes taken in front of the manager Michael promising us that the money would be refunded, we only got one order , therefore the duplicate order needs to be refunded!!! I need this situation to be resolved and money refunded as soon as possible as this has been dragging for months, if this is not resolved I will have to file a police report for theft against the owner of the place or take other measures to get my...
Read moreI had a dining experience at this location today and wanted to share my thoughts. Firstly, I must say that the food was not bad for the price. However, there were certain aspects that left me a bit concerned. As a chef and someone who has dined at various establishments across Canada and the US, I was surprised to witness some hygiene issues during my visit.
Although my friend had recommended this place, I couldn't help but notice that the staff didn't wear hair nets, and one individual had long hair. Additionally, I observed that they didn't change their gloves while handling the food. It seemed like they only wore one glove and used their other hand directly. This made me question the purpose of wearing just one glove. I also noticed that they were taking pickles and condiments out of the containers with their bare hands to put onto our burgers.
To make matters worse, I discovered a hair in my food and observed how they prepared food for other customers. At one point, I witnessed one staff member using their ungloved hand to pick something out of their teeth, and then proceeded to handle burger buns and assemble the burgers using the same hand. They also touched their face, hair, and beards before handling the food. Needless to say, my friend and I were appalled by these observations, and we decided not to finish our food and left the premises.
I believe it is important to provide constructive feedback so that the restaurant can improve. As a professionally trained chef I get this isn’t gourmet but the employees should have more respect and consideration for food safety and basic...
