I have tried Jin Dragon twice. Both times I have been pleasantly surprised by how good 1 part of the meal is, but generally disappointed with the rest. As they are so hit and miss I will only comment on the dishes I tried. Wonton soup: Really great broth, good wontons. Unfortunately the greens in it are overpowering (texture wise and there are a lot of them), and the pork is very bland. Lemon chicken: Wonderfully sweet and lemony, Chinese-Canadian food. Deep friend chicken in a sweet lemony sauce, if you like the sound of that you will love this. Cantonese Chow Mein: Very very very different from what I'm used to. The noodles are good. The sauce is overbearingly sweet, and the "goodies" in the sauce weren't good quality. The veggies weren't bad, but the meat tasted bad. BBQ Pork Slices: Good flavour, but a very small amount of flavour. As well every piece of the pork was very dry. Ginger Beef: Had a good taste, with excellent large amounts of ginger and beef, with an authentic taste. Unfortunately it looked like sludge. Egg foo young: This was one of the wonderful surprises. I can't say anything negative about it. It had a great taste, smell, texture, and it was exactly...
Read moreIf you're a fan of dim sum, then you absolutely have to check out this restaurant just opened recently. It's hands down the best dim sum spot in town, and I'd even go as far as saying it's some of the best I've ever had.
The dim sum here is simply outstanding. Everything is freshly made to order, and you can really taste the difference. The har gow and siu mai are both must-tries - the shrimp in the har gow is plump and juicy, while the siu mai is bursting with flavor. The char siu bao is also a standout - the bun is pillowy soft, and the barbecued pork inside is tender and savory.
But it's not just the classics that shine here - the restaurant also offers some really creative and delicious options in their traditional Chinese menu.
All in all, I can't recommend this restaurant enough. The dim sum is absolutely fantastic, and the overall experience is just delightful. So if you're in the mood for some seriously delicious food, head on over and...
Read moreMy wife and I had a brunch here. As a dim sum lover, it is a surprise to me to have such an authentic dim sum restaurant in Newfoundland. We ordered a feast of dim sum and had to pack some. For most of the dishes, we were very satisfied. However, the steaming tripe was not well-seasoned and even a bit cold due to the lack of steaming time. Here is the -1 star on food, and I hope the kitchen management will be more careful in the future. Overall, the food was delicious, the price was fair, the service was great, the atmosphere was comfortable, and the parking lot was big. I feel like the restaurant is better than most dim sum restaurants in Shenzhen, China, where I spent several months last year. It is a sad side story of the degeneration of the restaurant industry in many cities in mainland China, but anyway, I am happy to have a nice dim sum restaurant here, and will 10/10...
