My aunt and uncle had come up from Montreal for a visit last week. We decided to do a very Nova Scotia type of sightseeing trip to Peggy’s cove.
On our way back from seeing the lighthouse, we decided to stop for some ice cream.
Unfortunately, we chose this place that had the worst service that I could have ever imagined. Once everybody in our party had decided on a certain type of ice cream, I approach the counter to order. After greeting the cashier and starting my order, she interrupted me to ask me if I would consider ice cream sandwiches instead of scooped ice cream.
She was not friendly or polite. She didn’t smile at all, and we all had the impression that we were inconveniencing her by being there. Which could be one of the reasons there was no one in there.
They have no bathrooms on site, except for in the bistro on the second floor. The bistro is not open to the public, nor does it allow people under 19.
I had gone into ask if I could use the washroom for my four-year-old to which I was told that children are not allowed in the bistro. By the time I exited the shop, my fiancé had already taken my four year old to the bistro, and was on her way out.
The cashier followed us over to our vehicle to shout at us and tell us we had no right to do that, and that it was unfair to her staff.
The bistro was also empty. I do not understand why we deserved that type of treatment, even though we had. “Violated the policy” by letting our child use the bathroom in an empty restaurant.
It was disgraceful that this was the type of service that we encountered when showing visitors to our lovely province, such an iconic place...

I’ve visited Boston countless times and indulged in every lobster roll hotspot imaginable—but nothing compares to the magic of Bubba’s Boat Lobster Roll at Bubba Magoos, tucked just down the road from Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia.
From the moment you step into their purple building, you can sense something special. They crack the lobster fresh right there—no pre-packaged meat here. The result? Giant, sweet chunks of lobster that burst with ocean flavor.
What really elevates the roll is the attention to detail: it’s piled generously on a perfectly toasted, buttery bun. Each bite is a symphony of textures—crispy warmth of the bread, juicy richness of lobster, all bonded together with just the right touch of seasoning.
And let’s not forget the vibe. The owner greets you with a huge, genuine smile, making you feel really welcomed. Whether you’re grabbing your roll from the casual take‑out window or settling into the charming upstairs bistro, the hospitality remains consistently outstanding.
Everything about Bubba Magoos reflects that Atlantic spirit—fresh, vibrant, and unpretentious. If you’re in Peggy’s Cove, do yourself a favor: wander past the lighthouse, take in the scenery (you’re already a winner), then treat yourself to what might just be the best lobster roll you’ll ever taste.
Thank you for the experience ! Kristie...
Read moreI try my utmost, to look for positives everywhere I dine...I truly care about restauranteurs and honestly I wish I could give a high er rating but I just cannot. If you read my reviews you will note I am extremely careful in not slamming....the reason is I know how hard it is to work in the restaurant industry...I have been seriously debating whether I should even post this....but I have to for the sake of diners that hear the word Bistro and are expecting delicious offetings. The very first thing you will notice is the handrail leading up to the Bistro which has not been sanded....be careful or you will get splinters...stairs could have been designed with longer treads and shorter rise....the long stairs alone are probablematic and aren't customer friendly. Service was so disjointed. The owner appears do do everything and isn't great at delegating. The 🦞 mac and cheese was virtually devoid of lobster and for the 24 dollar price...it could have had at least a claw or something resembling a lobster on top at the very least. Salad was merely mixed greens with canned mandarin oranges. My friend was disappointed with her fish and chips....they were not fresh battered in house and the fries were the frozen variety. Too bad because of this establishment played their cards right it could be a destination restaurant.....as for us we won't be make the drive to dine there...
