Great location, cozy atmosphere, and plenty of space for small or large groups. The prices are decent also, though they mostly only serve breakfast now. I would have recommended this place to others, but for the following reason I won't. I found this restaurant online and thought it looked good. I made plans to visit with 4 other friends 2 1/2 weeks ago. We arrived shortly after 1pm thinking the restaurant was open till well past dinner (based on online info). When I arrived I saw a sign outside noting the restaurant closed at 2pm. Unfortunately, my four friends had arrived a few minutes before me and had already been seated. They hadn't noticed the sign. They were purely going on my recommendation (which was based on what I found online). Fine! I get that things change online. When the waitress came to our table I noted my concern to her and told her that I thought they were open till much later and asked if we were too late to sit down and enjoy a meal. She noted that it was fine, so we ordered and in time got our meal. When most of the group finished eating the main course, a few of us tried to order dessert. That wasn't responded to in a customer friendly manner and well before the place closed staff were vacuuming and cleaning around us. (Side Note: We paid way more then we were quoted for dessert and it was cold. Come on. At least try and put it in a microwave for 30 seconds and let us think you MIGHT care.) FINE! I get it. You want to go home, but then you should have told me when I asked if we were too late to enjoy a meal. It's not classy or customer service friendly to start shutting down and making it uncomfortable for customers to linger before your official closing time. If you close at 2pm you shouldn't be vacuuming within inches or even feet of a "serviced" table before then. Not classy. I don't know if this is typical of the restaurant or if we landed on a day where the restaurant was staffed with employees with zero customer care concerns, but the service was a complete FAIL! I expect that those arriving at noon or earlier might have a much different experience. As for the day and time my friends and I chose, there were at least two cozy restaurants less than a minute up the hwy with more lunch options at 30% lower prices (and even more at the same price) that we could have enjoyed a leisurely lunch together at without being pressured after 40 minutes of being there to leave (by actions that were subtle and/or not so subtle). I think I understand why this restaurant has drastically cut it's hours. Customers need to feel valued to become return customers and to recommend a ...
Read moreTonight I went out for dinner with my brother-in-law and my sister. I should mention that this was my first time visiting this place. Everything was fine until I asked for the bill. To be honest, I didn’t check it and proceeded to pay right away, but my brother-in-law looked at the receipt and noticed that we were charged for an extra soup. He mentioned it to the server, and she said she would return $3 in cash and walked away.
I still proceeded with the payment without checking the bill. When she came back, my brother-in-law asked for her attention again and pointed out that the bill showed $7.99 for each soup.
She walked away again, and while heading to the register, she said, “If you want more money, I’ll give you $5,” also claiming there was no manager available at that moment. She came back with the $5 and dropped it on the table quickly without allowing us to say a single word.
When I heard this, I felt truly outraged. Honestly, I don’t understand why this person assumed such things and responded in such an inappropriate way, but we felt extremely offended.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to clarify something to this person: if my brother-in-law’s accent made it harder for her to listen or provide proper service, I’d like to make it clear that the only thing we expected was for her to take a moment to check the bill and explain why it showed a price of $7.99 per soup when she had clearly said we were charged for a small soup, and why we were charged for three soups when only two were ordered. It was just a matter of reviewing, clarifying, and correcting the mistake if needed.
In any case, thank you for the $5—although I don’t need it, and I would gladly return it. However, I truly doubt that $5 will help improve your attitude, and it will not change...
Read moreMyself, my wife & my son went. The atmosphere was nice. It's a bit roadhouse which isn't really the best choice for a place with a veranda all around and lots of windows. It should be taking better advantage of the great light. The service was good. My son and I both had the penne & meatballs and the Mrs. had chicken parmesan which also had penne and tomato sauce. All entres come with soup or salad. My son and I had the soup. The soup was potato broccoli. It was a rather limp offering of greenish broth with no pieces of potato or broccoli to serve as evidence of what it was supposed to be. This could have been served in a cup. No spoon is necessary. The penne was done just a bit too el dente for my taste. The sauce was a rather dark red like a Bolognese sauce with no meat. The meatballs were two balls about two inches in diameter that were a peculiar pinkish colour inside. I suspect it was the colour brought by whatever filler they used along with the meat. My wifes salad seemed okay. Oddly the cucumber slices had the fruit halved and the middle scooped out before slicing. It was like they were removing the seeds on an English cucumber, very odd. Her chicken was a full half of a chicken breast. It didn't appear that it had been hammered flat at all. The whole meal was as hot as it should be and was tastey enough. The price total for the three, with soft drinks, taxes and tip, just over $90. So it's not expensive nor is it inexpensive. With a couple of beer or glasses of wine...
