Boston Pizza — Restaurant in Penticton

My family and some family friends and I all went out to the Boston Pizza in Penticton to celebrate the end of the school year—my younger sister and her friend moving into the school up from elementary and myself moving into my grad year. We have been coming for about 3 years now and while we would have some minor bumps, they weren’t enough to warrant our decision on what happened the last time we went….

While I do understand staffing shortages, this was not the greatest. We had spent a total two hours there with one of our friends leaving after an hour because he had prior engagements that he couldn’t miss—we wound up getting his food packed up when it came. We had to ask servers for cutlery when it should have been put on our table after everyone’s order was taken. People who came in after us were getting their food and leaving before us. And food was coming an hour after we had arrived; no one checked to see how the food was or if we needed anything else (ie. drink refills; asked for those and it took a solid 20 minutes before they arrived).

Now you might be thinking I’m being unfair. They’re possibly short staffed and it could have been busy…. Half of the dining area wasn’t even being used and they had ~3 servers on to cover the smaller dining section that was used. And it was a fairly steady flow of people; not jam-packed but not deserted either.

One of the servers threw several plates of food on our table with attitude. On top of what happened so far, they wanted us to tip ~18%. While the adults did dispute it and had the tip removed in the end, we sure as hell won’t be coming back. I can understand being short staffed and it being jam-packed, but that doesn’t excuse what happened. We went to Boston Pizza last night for dinner we arrived at 5 and they took our drink order right away but then 25 minutes went by and we had to ask to order our appies. The appies came at just before six still hadn't got to place our dinner order had to ask to place the order. We ordered three pasta dishes and two pizzas we wanted a flat crust pizza and a perogi pizza but where thinking of the BBQ chicken he said to just do half and half we said ok. And we said no onions and I watched him right it down. He then came back and said we couldn't do half and half as one is flat crust. We said ok we will get the perogi pizza and the chicken flat crust one again saying no onions my husband is allergic. So pizza came and we got our perogie pizza and a pizza with basic and BBQ chicken with onions,then another pizza the flat crust one but once again with onions we told them we only ordered the two not three so the took the half and half away. The flat bread had onions so we asked to get it without onions liked we asked and he said I didn't hear you. At that point I gave up and just wanted to eat. The flat crust pizza came with no onions yay but not on flat crust anyway all said and done 2&1/2 hours and no drink refills and done everyone had to eat at different times. Good service,lots to choose from,and lots of beer choices! Choose from the sport bar area or the more formal dining section! I had rated Boston pizza quite highly in my former review,for some reason I can't leave a second review. We chose Boston's for my birthday get together,friends and family came in at different times and ordered their food and drinks. When my son showed up we were told we would have to pay an 18 percent service fee,my friend told him that a forced tip was unconstitutional and we will tip by quality of service.he said it was their policy and a sign is posted up front,I asked to see the sign.we went up to the front where he pointed out a sign about 6 inches long in the far right corner under the counter top.the sign said an 18 percent service fee would be added to groups over 10. I asked him why is he even bringing this up? We are a group of 10..not over 10 as stated.manager does not even understand their own policies..my get together was pretty much ruined.
