Okay short story; Just go to Sumo if you're wanting sushi and pretty much anywhere else for Chinese buffet... Like even Pembroke Mall chinese.
Full disclosure I used to eat at fijisan (Old name on pet blvd) when they opened, as well as when Sumo was moving.
Lemme paint this picture for you. We drive in and my family and I park. Nice parking lot very new and lots of parking. Sweet. Go inside and that's kinda where the sweet stops. Nice entry but way too open with enough space to fit another buffet line instead of just the one they had. Also note that you can eat either sushi buffet (Chinese included) or just Chinese buffet (first positive you pick individually not by party ie. I had the sushi and Chinese buffet but my spouse had only Chinese) however this was not explained and we had to ask. The whole entrance was a little chaotic and unclear. We are told to sit wherever and got some waters. Cool... except we had to ask for more water 2 or 3 times before I got up and went to the counter to get more. (Soft drinks not included also had to ask) Now let me tell you about the food... Not good. The sushi was sub par nothing like they used to sell and the Chinese buffet was kinda stale. I have a feeling the food is not turning around enough to stay fresh so the tempura was soggy or stale, miso soup was flavourless with no tofu or seaweed, their advertised crab legs were overcooked making them dry (they also add $2 extra on crab leg days even if you don't eat them they had an actual sign for that), no vegetarian options at all btw all veggie trays had some kind of meat in them. The only saving grace was the cold desert buffet (secondish positive) but even that was weak (I ate my moneys worth in berries lol) but even the ice cream was all ice crystals. I might also mention how loud it was. I couldn't hear all dinner and full disclosure I am slightly hard of hearing but the pressure kept changing in the building and it really janked my ears. Also should note the signs for the food were not in the right spot. My family and I plan to not return and enjoy the quality sushi at Sumo.
Oh I almost forgot but the better half reminded me that when we went to pay (38.99 + 26.99 + no charge under certain age + tax + tip) they tried to seat us again and we were like "no we need to pay and leave" lololol
Great idea poorly executed with a clear lack of quality with focus on quick...

Read moreCame for dinner buffet with family tonight. Place got very busy, very quickly. Service was ok & friendly staff. However, clearing plates and getting fresh water was a task. As for the food buffet, nothing jumped out as incredible, most of the buffet was all deep fried and battered items. Not alot of vegetable dishes, chop suey etc. Most food items were bland and tasteless, however, everything was very fresh. One thing I did notice was there was not alot of added salt in the food items, which is a very good thing. I liked that. Another issue I had was the crab legs are advertised as king crab legs, but they are not. They are small snow crab legs (opies). Too much work and effort for such a little return on meat. Also, they were slightly overcooked. All in all, I don't have enough to complain about to tell you not to eat here, because you should, but for us it is likely a one and done. There's better options in the area for a quality meal that might be...
