Island Cream Caribbean Cuisine — Restaurant in Peterborough

I've been meaning to write this review for months and am finally getting to it. I visited this place during the mid-afternoon on Friday May 30th. It had come highly recommended by a friend of mine and I was on my home from Hamilton when the opportunity finally arose. Disappointed and disgusted is a good place to start. I was initially told it would be a 15-20 minute wait for an order of phoulouri, 6 doubles and 4 roti skins. That wait turned into to one of of over an hour, but I was willing to stick it out because I thought it would be worth it. As I'm sitting there, I start to notice how dirty the place is - from the floors to the countertops to the glass in the refrigerator units (they were cloudy!). I finally got my order and by the time I walked back to my car, which was parked directly across the street, the paper bag was soaked with grease. I headed back on the road and ate one phoulouri and one double - they were literally dripping in grease. I wasn't going to backtrack and return to the restaurant and threw the rest of them out when I got home. Let it be said that I will never be back. I highly recommend that a Health Inspector pay a visit to this...

Ackee & Codfish tastes exactly like Crab.

This is like the fish version of the crustacean - Crab Very interesting. When I ate this, it really does taste like a fish that came from the ocean & that they just prepared by adding many ingredients to make a fish that just came from the ocean taste good. It tastes really fresh out of the ocean & obviously homemade. Wow! That doesn't get any more authentic than that. I love trying new food & this one is a Trinidadian restaurant. Interesting. Sometimes I wonder how this place is still alive. The inside looks super old & needs cleaning but the food is Great & that's why Island Cream is still here. I am not one to write a bad review but I was flabbergasted at my experience today and this is not right. I am all for supporting a small family run business but this is not ok. First off I waited over 35 mins for ackee and four doubles. No one else in the restaurant. Which is fine if the food is any good which it was not. My doubles were beyond greasy and had no filling whatsoever(pic for reference). Absolutely terrible. I got ackee and 95 percent of it was rice and coleslaw. The place is absolutely disgusting and dirty as well. The floors , fridges , counters all so dirty. Honestly what a shame ! I hope they can turn this around and salvage this...
