Loved the place; felt so warm and cozy in the winter and the live music was amazing. I instantly said it was one of my favourites in Peterborough while walking in. The decor is nice and inviting as well.
The server was awfully rude though. I asked her if she could make my margarita a bit more "skinny" with less syrup or whatever she would be using and said "UM I GUESS" and scrimpled up her face. It threw me off as I'm not used to being spoken to like that especially when I'm being genuinely nice and I generally don't consume sugary drinks. If you can't do it, then dont. I'll be happy to just order a glass of wine and shutup and sit there but don't talk to me like that. I looked at her confused and even doubted myself on whether this was the most ridiculous thing I could have asked. Verdict: it's not, it's very possible to reduce the sugar on almost any mixed drink. I then asked if she could use less ice (as it's beyond freezing outside and I don't want a cold, overly diluted drink) and she again looked at me like I was absolutely nuts and told me the drink would be less then. I said yes this is fine just to end any interaction with her. Surprisingly, the Margarita was actually delicious!
We also ordered a Sleeman beer (pint) that tasted a bit more flat than usual and we took a sip and decided this wasn't as expected. We told her we'll pay for the drink but we'd like to swap the beers as we prefer a more light one. She said they were all in the same category and talking to us like we were not very educated. It just seemed like it was such a chore for her to deal with us. She has absolutely no workplace etiquette. Normally, you'd see a fully returned beer, you would decide not to charge for it but we had said we'd pay so we did.
She continued to just eat behind the bar as we sat at the bar. Her whole vibe was just blah. I wish I had her name but will definitely take a look at my receipt and update this review because I felt like the other server was a bit more pleasant to the other guests. It was Thursday night so maybe just avoid when she's working. This all could possibly be because we didn't look like we belonged there.
I really wanted to stay longer but her attitude just ruined the mood nor did I want to give the establishment any more of my money for keeping such staff. I'm sure I'll be back but not sure I'll be...
Read moreOur server was terribly rude. 4 of us for Valentine dinner. 2 of us ordered fish and chips - we wanted 2 piecebut apparentlyshe didn't hear that, so we both got 1 piece. The other 2 ordered a past, I believe. I ordered a small salad to start, it was mostl the core o the lettuce, she didn't even notice the bowl was still full when she took it. Almost threw my friends dinner across the table. The server says we'll it's hard to get things across these tables. My fish are chips would have been amazing, I think if it came HOT. The server got me new fries. My friend with other fish said his was warm. After the terrible we had, then we waited 45 minutes for our bills, while our server was chatting it up friends. UNACCEPTABLE as far as I'm concerned. Bad experience for me, and only my second there. VERY DISAPPOINTED
Your response to me about the terrible food and horrible service, could not have come from the owner.....really please read what you write. A child perhaps. It's all unfortunate actually that NO ONE CARED,no one came to check in on us even after I said it was cold and greasy,as it sat in the window while...
Read moreCouldn’t order anything as the bartender was no one where to be seen. We waited about ten minutes and I asked another patron if they knew where the bartender was. He said he was waiting as well but he thought it was this woman who was having a conversation across the room. We waited a few more minutes. At this point she had been talking to this person for over 15 minutes. I moved to stand at the end of the bar so I could be sure I was seen. The server eventually came over and my friend told her he’d like a cowbell beer. She put her hand in his face and told him she had something to do and we had to wait. She then walked off. We left. It was the worst service I have received in Peterborough and I grew up in the area. I brought my friend from New York here -and like the live music at the black horse. Will never go again. If you like good live music and rude, dismissive and possibly inebriated bartenders then do go. Otherwise there are other places with great music and polite and hospitable servers. We didn’t get the servers name. She was tall. With big rings and...
