(Viewers: this is a Lengthy post but you must read it!!) Absolutely would never recommend this restaurant to anyone! The service here is so unprofessional. My family ( myself, my sister in law and our children) and I came here to have dinner. We were first told we could dine on their pop up parking lot patio, despite it being hot outside, we were fine with that. As it would allow us some air, and to be socially distanced from the other customers. Then, one of the waiters told us that no, it was closed and we had to dine inside. We were still ok with that despite the mixed info. After sitting inside for some time, waiting an extended period for our food, we noticed the AC was not working. It was 31 degrees outside, we had children and a baby, so it was definitely a hot day where the AC was needed. After expressing our concerns repeatedly, with all of us sweating, and extremely hot, the waiter offered us a table fan that was about 7 inches in diameter and filled with dust! Pause, a dusty fan while eating, not only are we in a pandemic, but that’s absolutely disgusting! If we wanted a hole in the wall restaurant, we could have easily gone to one. The last thing I expected was to be forced to dine in a burning hot restaurant. The waiters were even all sweating hot!(instead of outside where it literally had more air flowing). They could have even offered us a different area of the restaurant to sit. It was plenty of available seating, but they didn’t even do that. They first kept insisting the AC was working, but was clearly broken in the area we were sitting. After waiting another 35 minutes for the owner to come and address our concerns. When he finally came, he informed us that the AC was in fact not working in that section. Instead of simply apologizing for the inconvenience and changing our seating. He tried to blame the pandemic, which was literally irrelevant for terrible customer service and mixed information. Instead, he had a very rude and disgusting attitude, blamed the waiters for the inconvenience as well as putting all the blame on his poor son who is also a waiter, who actually had nothing to do with anything, he wasn’t even our waiter. The crazy this is, at that moment we could see through the window outside, a couple of men came and were dining outside on the patio!!! The patio they insured was closed! When we asked the owner why they were allowed to sit there and not us, the owner tried to say they were customers from the restaurant next door. A few seconds later. We saw our same waiter, waiting in them!!!! So these customers were in fact, customers of Affy’s!!!!! After pointing this out the owner was literally caught in a lie. He was so unprofessional, saying how he didn’t care and oh well, arguing with us back and forth, yelling at us. He then was yelling at his son to apologize to us. Yet, refused to apologize himself. It was literally the worst experience I’ve ever encountered at any establishment. All while still waiting for our food. Nearly an hour has passed at this point. ITS ACTUALLY SAD THAT THE OWNER OF AFFY’S WOULD TREAT WOMEN LIKE THIS!!!! But the guys outside? No problem. These waiters and the owner was clearly taking advantage of women in this situation! The fact that they treated those guys with nice service allowing them to sit outside with no issue, but refusing us ladies! The owner didn’t offer any compensation, apologize or seem to care in the slightest bit! At this point, we had already paid for our food (they make you do that before you even get seated). So we just took it and left. But I would absolutely never ever return here, or recommend anyone give this establishment their business either!!!!! Service LIKE this, is a prime example why you will never grow as a business, and will always remain a “mom and pop”business, if your business survives that is. This all could have easily been avoided. But no, THE OWNER OF AFFY’S HAS NO RESPECT FOR WOMEN!!!! I wish I could give this business less than 1 star!...
Read moreI really wish more halal places would open up in the east end so I could stop coming here out of desperation. There's a number of things wrong with Pickering Affys. It's nothing new that your food takes forever to arrive. They also tend to serve people not all at the same time, so some people are left waiting much longer than others in their party.
My most recent experience there was for a family dinner (Tuesday night 9pm) in which we brought our out of town relatives.
Issues: Our reservation was made explicitly for 8:30 PM over the phone. when we got there we were told our table wasn't ready yet, we waited approximately 20 minutes before we checked on the status of our table. we were then told that we made a reservation for 9pm which is 100% untrue. I asked for the dinner specials menu because I am aware that they still do specials Monday to Thursday for lunch and dinner. We were given three menu cards of the specials and a stack of regular menus. When it was time to make our order, we were told that "oops we gave you the lunch menu cards (2 can dine for $22) and you can't order from them. The waitress acted as if we had grabbed these cards independently ...when we had actually been handed them by her 20 minutes ago (yes it takes them that long to come and check if you're ready to place your order). Btw I should point out - that menu did not say "lunch" anywhere on it and when she handed us the dinner menu (two can dine for $34) that had no mention of "dinner". This annoyance/confusion could be avoided entirely if they just labelled these pieces of paper with "lunch" and "dinner". Revolutionary idea. 2b. In regards to these menus, the issue is not the price (which is an okay deal) but they have items on these lunch and dinner menus that are not on the regular menu so it's worth it to ask for those menus if you are interested in one of those "special" meals. 2c. After all the menu confusion we were ready to order and I asked for the veal (one of the "special" dinner items) and she said "oops did I forget to tell you that's sold out?". I have a sneaking suspicion that it wasn't sold out... they probably just don't like to have people order it because it's likely the most expensive thing on their dinner specials menu. On this occasion, and in general, servers take forever in coming to your table, especially for taking your order and just following up in regards to water etc. (even when you come at an off-peak time like a weekday evening at 8:30/9PM). They are also impossible to flag down, you basically need to set off a flare to get noticed.
Overall, despite the number of times I've been here (purely due to the scarcity of halal dine-in restaurants options in the East end), it's a restaurant I would never recommend unless you're in the mood to be irritated and eat mediocre food. My relatives were majorly unimpressed and Affys made the landscape of Halal Toronto food look pathetic when in actuality Trono's food options are amazing ...just...
Read moreWe had the most horrifying experience at Affy’s Premium Grill in Pickering. My friend and I came here for iftaar and to no surprise, the location was busy. We stood around waiting to be seated but no one assisted us. We should’ve taken this as a hint. But Instead I approached the waitress and asked to be seated. After deliberation with her colleagues she came back and gave us a spot in the buffet section. We were in no hurry as we didn’t expect to break our fast until 9:05pm. We ordered our food ASAP and helped ourselves to the leftover “iftaari” they had out - some cold, hard samosas, spring rolls and dates. We waited 50 minutes before going and asking the waitress if our food was prepared yet, as we had not been given any update or apology for the inconvenience. She informed us that the food would be coming out “now”. We waited another 10 minutes and the food finally came out. The steak was burnt and cold, the fajita was extremely oily and the onions were burnt. We expressed our concern to the waitress and the owner came to ask us what the problem was. He took the steak back to the kitchen, cut off the burnt portion, poured some more gravy on top and brought it back. Unfortunately by now it was already 10:15pm and all other restaurants in the area were closed (mind you, we were fasting). When we finished the meal and expressed to the owner that we did not think the food or the service was worth paying for, he yelled at us saying that we shouldn’t have eaten the food and he could have just brought it back to the kitchen and given it to his employees. We decided to pay as we did not want to be in that environment any longer given how disrespectful the owner was being to us. We told the owner that we would be writing a bad review for his restaurant and he replied by saying “that’s okay! That’s not the only time Muslims have given us a bad review.” We were confused as to how this had anything to do with us being Muslim. Regardless, we paid and left immediately. On the way out we told the owner that the way he yelled at us was not okay. He proceeded by saying “that’s how I talk”. All in all, this was the worst customer service experience we have ever had and we will surely not be returning customers at...
