I have been a client of Kabuki Sushi for many years, and would like to post my comments around recent experiences.
First of all, this started as a two star review but just changed to a one star review as I just returned from a take out experience at there restaurant to notice I had no wasabi.. which sounds trivial but let me go on.
Over the past few months, I have noticed a change to there menu but also there service. I order from here 1-2 times a week.. usually a few roles and a don-buri.
My first argument with the lady, was when i ordered a Chicken Teri Roll, Beef Teri Roll, and a chicken don buri. Upon arrival, they made full chicken teriyaki and beef teriyaki and expected me to pay for it. I explained the order is the same I always make, and the hostess read the order back to me and it was accurate. We literally argued for several minutes before she spoke something in another language and the gentleman cooks said don't worry we will remake it. Rule number 1, even if I did mess up (which I reiterate my order 3 times before hanging up as well as they read back to me) you don't argue so heavily with a frequent customer.
Today we ordered a similar order, and my friend went to go pick it up. As she arrived, an argument ensued that there was no order to pick up. I receive a call from my friend saying did you order, and they heard me, pass the phone to the lady I explained what I ordered and they said noone ordered and they have no order. Again after a few minutes of back and forth the girl "remembers" she forgot to click save and save the order so nothing was ready. She briefly apologized and said they will make it as soon as possible. It comes home.. no wasabi.
There were many other instances in between - the food is mediocre to good nothing amazing but one of the better japanese restaurants in town, however unfortunately due to service it really brings...
Read moreThis used to be one of our regular take out sushi places, but with so many other choices nearby, we tend to order from a variety of places. I decided to give Kabuki a try tonight after a bit of an absence.
I placed an online order for a Dinner Box 'A' with the Teriyaki (chicken), tempura, gyoza, Dynamite Roll, nigiri and salad. The wait time was indicated as 20 mins, but when I arrived at just around the 20-min mark, the order was already sitting on the pick up counter. I barely live two blocks away, and by the time I got home, most of the 'hot' food was already lukewarm.
The Teriyaki was not only barely warm, but also dry, flat and tasted like it had been picked out of a warming tray. The teriyaki was decently breaded, but also just barely warm and tasted like it, too, was also sitting for a while. The Dynamite roll and nigiri were about the only decent parts of the meal - usual standard sushi fare in this part of town (inundated with sushi places), i.e. decent but nothing spectacular. The miso soup was not warm at all, i.e required some microwaving at home.
Quality of food seemed to be slightly lacking, i.e. seems to have almost gone just a tad downhill in recent times. Quality seemed to be a lot better in the past, perhaps there has been a change in staff? We've generally enjoyed the food here, but this visit was a bit disappointing. Yes, it was 45 mins to closing when I picked up, so I guess that may affect quality. I realize it's hard for these places to provide proper wait times (esp online), depending on their volumes, staffing, etc. However, when they know it's going to be a lot shorter or longer than quoted, it would be nice if they made an effort to let us know.
Staff were friendly and efficient and the restaurant actually seemed quite full for the...
Read moreBrought my Vancouver/Richmond friends here after a 5 hours hike at Golden Ears several weeks ago. I always ordered their lunch box when I went alone. Fair price, taste good and filling. We had to order something else since we just missed their lunch hours. My friend and I both ordered Salmon Don. The salmon was fine but the portion of rice that came with it was ridiculously small. I could literally finish the rice in two bites. That should be in the appetizer/kid's menu. One friend ordered assorted Sashimi - Not bad except that the tuna wasn't fully defrosted. The rest of them ordered ramen and were all disappointed that they were served H-Mart instant noodles instead. Anyway, it was such an embarrassing moment and I totally regret that I'd...
