How to Fall Out of Love with Sushi in One Day!
Our family of five fell in love with sushi thanks to this place. Years ago, this was the only spot we trusted whenever we wanted sushi. Under the original owner, the quality was excellent — always fresh and satisfying. The service wasn't great back then, but the food made up for it.
Unfortunately, things changed after the ownership did. The service has actually improved, but the food has gone downhill — and that’s what matters most.
We returned recently and paid nearly $300. What we received was shockingly disappointing. The sushi lacked freshness, tasted bland and monotonous, and we were served mostly end pieces — scraps, not full rolls. It felt careless, lazy, and not at all worth the price.
This was, without question, the worst sushi experience we've ever had. I spoke with the manager, but it was clear that this is no longer the place it once was. We won’t be coming back.
On top of that, the tip was charged based on the total after taxes — which violates the new Quebec consumer protection regulation that came into effect on May 8, 2025. Tips must now be calculated on the pre-tax amount. We will be filing a complaint with the Office de la protection du consommateur.
Update in response to the owner’s reply: I have the original receipt from my visit on August 2, 2025, which clearly shows that the 18 % tip was calculated on the post-tax total rather than the pre-tax subtotal. Receipt details for your reference: Transaction #: 008148 Subtotal (pre-tax): 209.95 $ Taxes: TPS 10.50 $, TVQ 20.94 $ Total (after taxes): 241.39 $ Tip (18 %): 43.45 $ — calculated on the post-tax total of 241.39 $ Total charged: 284.84 $ Time: 19:55:00–19:56:31 For clarity, the actual per-person cost for our group of 5 was: Base menu price: 41.99 $ After taxes: 48.28 $ After tip: 56.97 $ While the lunch menu may be listed as “~30 $ per person,” that does not reflect what customers are actually charged after taxes and tip. It’s surprising that you claim you cannot find any trace of our visit, given that I spoke directly to the manager during our meal and now, I have provided the exact transaction number, time, and bill details above. This information should make it easy to locate in...
Read moreJust got back from an amazing dinner at Sushi Hin! My partner and I have been going to the original sushi restaurant at this location (Sushi st-jean) for many years and I must say, this new restaurant has completely surpassed our expectations!
The dishes were top notch. Everything was very fresh! Rolls were very high quality and there were a ton of options as well. Some options had sushi with fruit, rolls wrapped in cucumber or rice paper rolls and it made the options feel less generic for an all you can eat place. It felt like eating high quality rolls from an à la carte restaurant. Sashimi was also very fresh. Lots of great options. All of the wok dishes and fried dishes came out hot and crispy. Lots of all you can eat places come with luke warm wok dishes that arent crispy... this was not the case at Sushi Hin!
The menu application was very cool too. We have been to other restaurants where you scan a QR code for the menu and were very impressed with the interface used for their ordering system. My partner and I could add things to our oder at the same time on different phones. There would be a cute message in the application that would say something like: "your fellow customer has added salmon sashimi to the order". Could be great if you're in a larger group and want to add your own items without only one person ordering. It was a neat feature that added to our experience. You can also see the process of your oder as well and track when it will come to your table. It was a very nice touch! :)
This is easily one of the best sushi places in the west island. We have been to many in the area and this was the best. Very good quality sushi for the price as well. Looking forward to eating here again!! Congrats on the...
Read moreThis place is an ABSOLUTE JOKE . We spent $87 for two people at this all-you-can-eat sushi spot, and after tipping the first time (even though their payment machine was glitching and wasting our time), we chose not to tip the second round. Their response? The waiter threw the receipt at us, stormed over, and ripped the plate away from us while we were still eating, then told us to ‘get out.’
You think you deserve a tip with behavior like that? Get real. Tipping is EARNED, not owed — especially when your staff acts like angry children throwing tantrums. I’ve never been treated with so much disrespect in a restaurant. If you enjoy getting robbed, disrespected, and humiliated after spending your hard-earned money, this is your place. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and go anywhere else.
Responding to the owner’s reply
Let’s clear this up since your response conveniently skipped the truth: we were two respectful, calm customers — not a ‘group’ — who were planning to tip you in cash. But the moment the machine glitched, you threw the receipt at us, snatched the food away while we were still eating, and then cursed at us to leave your restaurant. Over a tip.
Cursing paying customers and kicking them out over a glitch? That’s not just unprofessional — that’s unhinged. You didn’t ‘earn’ a tip, you blew it the moment your ego couldn’t handle a 30-second delay. And now you’re here trying to act like a victim in your sarcastic, bitter response?
It’s clear your version of hospitality is as hostile as your attitude. I stand by every word of my review — and now everyone else can see...
