Homestead Cookhouse — Restaurant in Port Alberni

We were recently in Ucluelet on vacation from Alberta with our family. My husband and I drove into Port Alberni with our 13-year-old grandson to do laundry and check out the town. We wandered downtown and found a delightful outdoor market. It was time for lunch, and we were all hungry. I have multiple food allergies and while they all make me sick in one way or another, some are life threatening and have hospitalized me. The restaurants at this market are in a row, and you go up to the window to order. Then there are tables scattered outside to sit and enjoy your lunch. I went to one window after another to speak to the staff and look at menus and kept coming up hungry. Finally, I ended up at Homestead Cookhouse. This lovely lady came to the window and was so professional and kind I knew I would be taken care of. I explained my allergies and she reassured me I could have a safe meal. I had the most delicious burger in a lettuce wrap, and I have never had one better wrapped, tastier and more beautiful to look at. It was the best burger on the island. This was perfect ! Ordered and got a huge poutine for only $10.45 (excellent price point actually a deal for the size I couldn’t eat it all) it’s the full square box not the rectangle box size! and I love that the basic came with green onions why can’t everybody do this ! Good fries and real cheese curds ! I walked over to look at the water and I came back and it had been ready and the very kind man had been looking for me. So fast! It was delicious! They also have burgers etc. and seemed to have regulars … they knew the orders of, always great to see such great service! They have great outdoor seating in the sun or shade what a quaint little place! I had been looking for a good poutine since arriving on my island vacation traveling up from the south of the island heading north over the last few days and found it ! Thanks guys will definitely will be spreading the word and come back on my next visit to the island in the fall and try one of your more fancy chicken or pulled pork poutines ! Hear ye, hear ye, I have just found an exquisite gem! I just heated up my delicious poutine leftovers that I garnered from our 1st visit here and sat down to write this review.

The price is crazy for the bountiful amounts! Me and the youngest both got the Beef Brisket Poutine. A huge square togo container slam packed with some of the best smoked brisket I've had in awhile! Delicious cheese curds, gravy and a sauce that just took it over the top, and the fries were tasty all by themselves.

My other kiddo got the 6oz Beef Burger, a huge beef patty that hung out from the bun. (as a burger should!) The wife got the Beef Brisket Sandwich on a ciabatta bun, a hardy portion on its own. I also ordered the All Beef Chili Cheese Dog that we all wanted to try. Forget using your hands, you'll need a fork and knife for this badboy, it was delicious!

The price for all of this food was something you don't see nowadays, a very great deal for some top quality cuisine! And the customer service is also something hard to come across these days, very kind and accommodating.
