Stopped by on a road trip to Tofino. It was busy and loud, as expected. The staff just talked to each other loudly while ignoring customers. They were too busy with their inappropriate and borderline annoying conversations to address the growing lineup. We had to mobile order while standing in the store. They weren't prepared for the kids soccer tournament that they claimed nobody told them about, so they were out of most baked goods, as well as oat milk and more.
This doesn't even cover my experience in their washroom, which have no key or pass code. The locks on both bathroom doors are weak, old, and finicky. It was quite apparent that none of the chatty immature teenagers working bothered to clean either of the restrooms. While using the bathroom the next day on the way back home, I was walked in on by one of the staff members working while standing over the toilet half naked. They quickly shut the door without an apology, and of course, they didn't bother to knock in the first place. I thought I locked the door, but as my mom told me, I wasn't the only one having trouble with this location's faulty door locks.
I would like to add that for some reason, despite just using that same bathroom a few minutes ago, when I went back in there were traces of fresh blood in the toilet, dripping down the toilet, on the ground, as well as in the sink...
When that staff member shut the door after walking in on me, the building happened to be fairly empty, so in the midst of my mortification and embarrassment I overheard the conversation they proceeded to have with their coworkers. In between the hysterical laughter and what sounded to be mock crying, I heard another worker asking that person repeatedly (and very loudly, nearly yelling) "laughing or crying!??" Over and over again, as if it was funny or something. It definitely wasn't amsuing to me. By far the most invasive and uncomfortable experience I had during my otherwise phenomenal trip. It's a shame that there are no other nearby Starbucks locations in the vicinity.
As a 16 year old girl who also works a very busy drive thru restaurant as well, and would never ever conduct myself in this manner, this place is by far the most unprofessional and terribly managed Starbucks I have ever encountered, completely run by immature amateurs. When I took this experience higher, I was offered a 20$ gift card... which is...
Read moreStarbucks has always usually been so reliable in being fast and efficient. However my experience here at this Port Alberni location felt like I was in a completely different cafe. The girl who took my order was very friendly, however she didn't even take my name despite there being quite a few customers. Also, I bought just 2 breakfast sandwiches...THAT'S ALL- NO drinks. they could've simply placed them in a bag and handed it right and there...but we ended up waiting 15 minutes. In the meantime I kept noticing the staff quietly place customers orders on the counter without notifying or addressing anyone that their orders were ready. I repeatedly returned to check if mine was ready but after the third time the handful of staff were not even aware of my order. Finally I lingered and reconfirmed my order which then they simply handed it straight to my hands. Coming from Vancouver and Richmond I've seen fewer staff at Starbucks handling a lot more customers, yet they'd work way more efficiently. There were a considerable amount of staff here at this location but perhaps a few of them were in training?? There were no indications of anyone being...
Read moreDear Starbucks, Don't bother putting flat white on your menu if you don't know what they are...
Try googling "what is a flat white" and the first result is from Wikipedia, as follows:
--A flat white is a coffee drink consisting of espresso with microfoam (steamed milk with small, fine bubbles and a glossy or velvety consistency). It is comparable to a latte, but smaller in volume and with less microfoam, therefore having a higher proportion of coffee to milk, and milk that is more velvety in consistency – allowing the espresso to dominate the flavour, while being supported by the milk.--
My flat white was dominated by a large volume of frothy (not velvety) milk, which is the complete opposite of the description above. Also, as the ratio of coffee to milk is supposed to be stronger, the Starbucks Tall/Grande/Venti thing doesn't fit with flat whites... unless you add more shots of espresso each time to maintain the strong coffee:milk ratio.
This might come across proper grumpy, but it's justified - I've tried 3 Starbucks whilst visiting Canada now and none of your outlets seem to get it. You are supposed to know...
