I never thought Iād be writing a review, but my experience at Waves Coffee House - Shaughnessy Port Coquitlam was so horrendous that I felt it was necessary to share.
I stopped by to grab a coffee and specifically asked for a small size of drip coffee in a medium cup, as I wanted extra room for milk. When I received my drink, it was served in a small cup. I politely asked if I could have it transferred to a medium cup, thinking they had only measured the coffee. I was more than willing to pay for the difference, as I understand the costs associated with running a business.
However, the staff reacted in a way that was completely uncalled for, insisting that I should pay for the cup size. I have no problem paying extra when itās warranted, but I found it frustrating that they assumed I was trying to get something for free. In my experience at other coffee shops like Starbucks, Blenz, and JJ Beans, Iāve never been charged extra for a larger cup when Iām already paying for the coffee.
To make matters worse, the cashier, Fred, began speaking about me in Farsi, unaware that I understood the language. When I responded in Farsi, he became visibly embarrassed. I reminded him that respect is crucial in customer service and that I wasnāt looking for anything for free.
After realizing his mistake, Fred offered me a free coffee, but I declined. I simply wanted a refund for the poor service I received.
I will never return to this coffee shop, and I will make sure to share my experience with friends and family to prevent them from facing the same treatment.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot good or even ok. The owner took my order. I had to give my order to him 3x. He even then disregarded my dairy allergy after disclosing it to him. He was bothered by it so he burned my shots. I also noticed when he was making everyone's drinks that he watered down all of the shots he put in the drinks. Its poor practice that makes for a bad drink. I paid $8 for the latte (very expensive) and was nice enough to leave a tip. I will never go back after this behavior.
If he wants to be successful, I would recommend the following: take a class on customer service its ok to say, "I'll be right with you in a moment" when making drinks pay attention to what people order Stop watering down the shots and pay attention when pouring the coffee If someone discloses an allergy, get their order correct (if I accidentally drank the dairy you could have called an ambulance) If you get someone's name from them, actually use it
What I did like: Canadian pride š Quality ingredients are available (just executed poorly)
I get it. Things are busy. Please care more or hire more staff. You have the tools to make a fantastic cup of coffee. Please use them properly. Unfortunately it was so bad that I won't be back. I took two sips and threw my coffee away. Save your money and go to the rec center instead. Its really...

Today was another great example of why I typically almost always regret giving my local coffee shop my business instead of hopping in the car and heading to Starbucks. It's beyond frustrating when you order your beverage extra, extra hot with no foam and what you receive is lukewarm and full of foam. It's almost like there was no point in even asking because your request was completely ignored and it seems that your beverage was made the only way the staff knows how. To add to the disappointment, after waiting over 15 minutes to receive my order, you have absolutely no interest in requesting that your beverage be remade and end up waiting who knows how long all over again. It's pretty bad when you would prefer to go without rather than wasting the $7.30 (large mocha with oat beverage) and dealing with the...
