I was meeting my mom at the Port Coquitlam White Spot this morning for breakfast and she arrived before I did so she asked for a table for three, one would need a high chair.
When I got there I sat down and noticed her table was far away from all the other dinners. Didnât think much about it at first, it was early so it was quiet.
It became increasingly obvious the waitress was having a hard time handling our table that was so far from her other tables. We saw her when she took our order, brought the food and that was it. Never checked on us to see how everything was tasting, ask if we wanted a refill, etc. But she was on the other side of the restaurant happily pouring coffee.
The toast was wrong and I waited 10 minutes after she brought the food out and finally got up and walked into the middle of the restaurant where all the people were. The waitress saw me and says âwhatâs wrong?â Mind you she hasnât been very friendly and was super monotone with us the entire time. I told her and she brought it out. My mom then needing something had to do the same thing but when she goes she asks âout of curiosity why did you put us so far on the other side of the restaurant to which she replies âthe baby and the highchairâ which I said to my mom âI figured as muchâ. I told the waitress âyouâre not allowed to segregate us because we have a small baby. We are allowed to dine with everyone elseâ she said itâs their policy, high chairs are to remain in this section. Apparently itâs against fire safety for high chairs to be on the upper level (which is fine) but why couldnât we be in the same area on the lower level?
The point, is because we were stuck by ourselves and away from everyone due to having a child, we didnât received good customer service because she didnât know when we needed something and often forgot about us.
Restaurants are not allowed to segregate mothers/fathers with children and shove you in a corner which I think they group all kids together so it doesnât disturb the other dinners to be honest.
I spoke with the manager and owner who both told me this was their highchair section and policy. Both were rude, both were unapologetic. I told the owner I would be writing a review he said âgo aheadâ.
I took a photo of where we were in comparison to everyone else. Thereâs a wall on the upper level so you canât see the other dinners but there were at least 7 tables. We were the only other table in the restaurant away...
Read moreWe were put in a booth where one of our guests couldn't sit. Right next to the party of children. Every time we are in there is next to the loudest Children's party on earth. The menu is very pricey and I could only find one thing I could eat which was chicken fingers with plum sauce. I don't know how everyone else eats around me at my party turned me off considerably. I don't think they actually tasted their food, which is a shame really.
I am dairy allergic and found nothing I could really eat without making lots of substitutions and pissing off the cooks. I found the menu to be daunting and I was out of my league and there were vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options with a disclaimer saying "we are not at fault for cross contamination" I found this very dumb cross contamination can happen anywhere at any establishment and saying your not at fault should really be a large sign on the front of your door and on your menu FYI. Because if you want to cover your butt say it everywhere it constitutes as well as from your front of house staff make sure that everyone knows and understands it. Make sure your front of house staff tell your guests each menu comes with gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options and where to look for them not everyone will read the menu thoroughly unlike myself.
I find eating at restaurants ever so more daunting with this allergy than ever before.
I also found that the server pushed us to order after the rest of our party arrived like 2mins after they got their drinks. It was like hurry up and order now usually after everyone closes their menus then people are ready to order not while people are still scanning through being pushed by the party to hurry up. If we wanted to get in and get our service we would have gone fast food. Remember customers who come back time and time again are your bread and butter to your restaurant also to make new return guests is not to put pressure on people to hurry up and order like now, some people need to take time to...
Read moreI've always loved White Spot, I've gotten the same order since I was 11 years old. Double Double with extra vinegar for my fries. I just had to write a review highlighting this place, many restaurant staff don't have the balls to handle parents who cant manage their children. I can't tell you how many times a meal was ruined by a screaming toddler in revolt, but don't worry, this place accommodates.
I was dismayed to see this one couple, who's rampaging little tyke (for which the parents did nothing to tame) running around the lobby, screaming and getting in everyone's way.
I had feared that seeing as I would be seated around the same time as them, that my dinner was about to be ruined yet again. But instead, the family was moved across to another section of the restaurant where other families with rambunctious youngsters sit.
Pure bliss, my company and I ate and drank in relative peace. Decent ambiance, delicious food and wonderful staff. For those who want to bring their children into a restaurant, you are not the only ones who want to enjoy a nice dinner out. Your experience should not come at the...
