Port Hope Diner — Restaurant in Port Hope

Arrived at the Diner about 6:50 pm. It was cold outside & requested a table where it was warm. One side of the diner was already closed. The waitress said 'hard to find a spot like that tonight' And she was right. We ate with our coats on. So...it was 'all you can eat fish & chip night for $7.99' Good deal...all four of us ordered that. My husband went & took his insulin. (he needs to eat within 15 minutes) 7:35...the deep fryers had been shut off & won't refire, so if you want anything that requires deep frying...it's not on the menu. We then looked at the rest of the specials, stir fry, lasagna & ceasar salad & a couple of others. Because the deep fryer wasn't working, she offered our meals from the specials for the same price as the fish & chips. My husband chose not to order a special but ordered a hamburg instead. I ordered the lasagna & ceasar, our friends both ordered the stir fry. By now it is almost 8 & we have yet to receive our food. The clock is ticking for my husband's insulin. We finally recieved our food & the stir fry looked like an appetizer. My lasagna & salad although, good protions, was barely warm. The salad had some bad dressings on it so I didn't eat that, but unfortunately I have been paying for the bit I did eat most of the night & throughout my day so far. When we received the bill, she charged me full price for the lasagna (what happened to the $7.99??) & when I questioned her, she told me that it was only for the stir fry. She must have had esp because she didn't know what they were going to order when she offered us that price. In the end she did give me the $7.99 for my warm meal & bad salad...what a treat!! BTW...that was dripping with sarcasim! Ask me if I would go there again or even recommend it....NO, NO & NO This stop was 2 times in 1...first & last. And...there was only 1 other couple in the restaurant, so busy was...

I am writing to formally express my extreme disappointment regarding the experience my partner and I had at Port Hope Diner this morning.

We have been loyal customers since you first opened and have always enjoyed both the food and atmosphere. Unfortunately, today’s visit has completely changed our view of your establishment. After ordering French toast and home fries, I discovered not one but two hairs in my meal after eating the first piece of French toast.

It then took 15–20 minutes before a server came to the table, and only after I flagged them down. When the bill came, I was shocked to find that the meal had not been removed. Instead, I was offered a mere 15% discount. This is wholly unacceptable. Once foreign objects such as hair are found in food, the proper and professional response is to remove the item—and in many cases, the entire meal—from the bill.

While the server did offer me a replacement, I cannot and will not continue eating once I have found hair in my food. No manager came over to address the situation, and I was told by the server that they “could not do anything else.” This demonstrates a complete lack of responsibility and disregard for customer care.

What should have been a simple, enjoyable breakfast left me feeling disrespected, unheard, and extremely dissatisfied. After this experience, I no longer feel comfortable dining at your restaurant, nor can I recommend...

My friends and myself recently dined at a charming restaurant that truly exemplified exceptional service. Our server was Mary Ellen. She was extremely helpful and sweet. Had a lot of patience with our custom orders as one of us was a vegetarian. From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us with warm smiles and a genuine welcome. The ambiance was inviting with an old time diner vibe but it was the attentiveness of the servers that truly stood out. Throughout our meal, our server was knowledgeable about the menu and offered insightful recommendations tailored to our preferences. They checked in at just the right moments, ensuring our glasses were never empty and that we were enjoying our dishes without being intrusive. The exceptional service complemented the delicious food perfectly, making it an unforgettable evening. They definitely don’t let you leave hungry haha so much food!!! I left not only satisfied with my meal but also with a smile, feeling truly valued as a guest. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone seeking a dining experience where service is prioritized and celebrated. I will come back again and will tell anyone that is stopping over in port hope to definitely come here!!!...
