Milano is a great new restaurant in Prince George. Since they are new I'm not judging them too harshly and I hope they will improve over time. The menu options are excellent and someone who knows what they are doing clearly created the recipes. Unfortunately the execution was a little lackluster.
We had the lobster ravioli, lamb shank and grilled romain heart. The presentation of the dishes was excellent.
The salad was the best dish. The caesar dressing was clearly made in house and was delicious, although a little too garlicky for my taste.
The lamb itself was good but the tiny bit of sauce added was flavorless. I didn't expect it to be braised and I guess the waitress didn't either since she asked how I wanted it cooked. Braised is a long way from medium rare haha. It came on a bed of risotto which was the most flavorless risotto I've ever eaten. I didn't know it was possible to make risotto that has less flavour than plain white rice.
The lobster ravioli was quite good. It lacked a little something to make it memorable though. Perhaps add a little black truffle oil ?
Overall the restaurant has great potential. One additional observation is that all the plates had very little salt. I really appreciated this since I find many restaurants rely too heavily on salt. You can always add more salt at the table. Of course, if you are going to go light on salt you better make sure your dish's flavors can support the...
Read moreFirst time here, and I will be coming back again. They have lunch and then a dinner menu that differ as well as appies. The service was excellent, the food was excellent, and they had a decent selection of menu items and desserts. They have an alcohol menu as well, but that's not for me. I was looking around at others' meals, and it all looked so good, but seafood and Italian cuisine are both at the top of my favorite list, so there is a bit of bias. Our server recommended the mussels in pesto sauce, and wow, that was an excellent call. I definitely will be ordering that again, but I also was strategizing what my future orders would be. The bison bolognese caught my eye as well as the raviolis and Waldorf salad. Will have to try the desert as well, but appies, main course, desserts wow with the generous food portions they serve I will have to starve myself for a few days before coming or maybe just Come for a dessert and coffee on a separate visit. The cost is a bit pricy but you get what you pay for, so the cost is not out of line for this type of classy restaurant. This is somewhere you go for special occasions or to impress your girlfriend or if I had deeper pockets I would come frequently just because I could. It is also advised that you call and see if reservations are needed. They also have an outdoor patio area for when the weather is...
Read moreOf the restaurants I’ve dined at during my business trip to Prince George, my favourite would have to be Mulino. I came across them by sheer luck (map wandering on Google Maps) and glad for it. Although I was disappointed they didn’t have a website, they made up for it in other ways. I was promptly and enthusiastically welcomed by the host. Without reservations, I was offered a seat at the bar. Watching the dinner rush come and go, I do highly recommend making reservations but can see the staff do their best to offer guests a table
I ordered a glass of Hester Creek Pinot Gris that paired nicely with the Spaghetti Carbonara. Really good dish by the way; they were generous with the procuitto and cheese. I’m salivating writing this and it’s horrible. For dessert, I opted for a cocktail and chose the Italian Greyhound. Not my cup of tea but still enjoyed it, my preference is for a more refreshing cocktail
Really good service, friendly staff/manager and atmosphere (would have enjoyed it more if I could hear more of the music). All in all, I’m very pleased with my dinner at Mulino and would visit again if I’m in town. (Hot tip: Bring friends so to sample...
