Oh man, if I lived in Quebec, this would be my spot. I'm a big fan of diners. So after seeing that there was a diner within walking distance of my airbnb, I came here upon my arrival. I was immediately greeted by the two staffs that work there. They offered me a sit at the booth but I requested to sit by the window. Upon looking at the menu, I turned to yelp to see if there were any pictures of the food. There were much but I instantly knew I wanted the chicken and waffle. I wouldn't take one star away for this but the one picture of the chicken and waffle on yelp was not the same portion I received. The picture showed two waffle with two chicken breast. I received one waffle with three chicken drumsticks, which was plenty for me. For $13cad, the chicken was very good, nice seasoned and fried. I also got fries which was a generous portion for $5cad. I came here two days later on a Saturday and ordered a hamburger. For $9, I only received a burger, nothing else comes with the burger. I would take one star away for this but I'm sure I'm just being a spoiled American who always order burger at a diner and it comes with fries. I'm on Canadian soil and should not expect anything more. One of the staffs suggested I get poutine. Because when you're in Canada, why not. For $6cad, the poutine was good for the value. While I was eating, I noticed they have a brunch special for the chicken and waffle from 10am to 3pm. So you know what I did... I came here my last day after checking out of my airbnb. I ordered the chicken and waffle the brunch special. The staff told me it comes with free tea. What makes it special is that it comes with an egg! I don't know whether he made a special meal for me because after three days here I was apparently a family member to them. But that brunch special was delicious! And it costed $11cad, $2 less than the regular entree. All this talk about the food. Let me to talk about the decor and atmosphere. It has the typical retro diner vibe. Very 80s looking. The music however was amusing (in a good way). They played oldies music. In one visit, I heard Bob Marley, Elton John, blues music, rock n' roll, among other genres. It was quite entertaining because you never know what type of music is coming up next.
TL:DR - Go to this place for delicious food at...
Read moreGreat atmosphere, but the food disappoints. We were visiting Quebec City and were excited to go here given it had quite a lot of veggie/vegan options and was highly regarded in a few websites.
To start, the servers were overwhelmed with number of customers so no one came to even give us the menu until 10 minutes after we were seated. Suggest they keep those small things with QR code so we can atleast start looking at the menu
They didn’t have an English menu, which is fine as we appreciate we are tourists and not all places can accommodate but when we ordered our food and mentioned to the server a few times that we are vegeterian, one of the dishes that came out had meat which they swiftly helped replace and apologies so that was nice of them but I think this is a struggle us vegetarians are often tired of and hope not to go through.
The food however which is what I was most excited for was not noteworthy which is honestly such a shame because the chefs worked in harmony and it was beautiful to watch. The Scooby Doo Mac and Cheese was lacking (for context I’m from the US) and the Brussels sprouts on top while perfectly done were missing that thread which would tie it together with the pasta. However the kung pao hot dog was delicious and the...
Read moreWe saw this place on Food Network's Big Food Bucket List, so we gave it a try. A nice little place off the beaten path (less tourists), but accommodating our lack of French abilities by serving us in English. They call themselves a "Small "Retro-Punk" neighborhood restaurant" and the decor and music were definitely to that image but in a fun and friendly way. My wife had a Montreal hot dog (hot dog with coleslaw) while I had the Diner Burger with waffles in place of the bun and we had fried onions and classic poutine as sides. They also had a small selection of alcohol free beer, which is greatly appreciated as I like beer, but I don't like drinking when I am eating out and have to drive somewhere. I got an alcohol free IPA by Ras L'Bock which had a great citrus note that paired very well with the Diner Burger.
The Diner Burger is very big and the waffles definitely add to the massive size. Great flavour with the fried onions and bacon, it filled me up. The fried onions had a salt and vinegar flavour to them and the classic poutine with real cheese curds is a must. Glad we...
