One year ago, I gave this restaurant a 5-star review. When I moved here in Quebec City a year ago, I went to this restaurant and I was like... Wow! Even It's not the best Japanese restaurant (Vancouver and Toronto they have good ones of course), at least we can find one authentic with Sashimi and real sushi, not the western style one with lots of fruits and other things. The taste was good, too. I was so happy that we had a proper and authentic Japanese restaurant like this in Quebec City.
But in July 2022, I went to Shogun Sushi again before I had a long vacation in France. (The last time was like around 3 to 4 months ago, I was a bit disppointed for their food, but I gave them one more chance again in July.) I was very disappointed. We were assigned to a table that smelt like pee. OK! We changed the table. Then we found the floor was very greasy, and it was not like that before. For the food, we used to order 4 to 5 rounds of Sashimi before because they were served efficiently and nice. But the recent visits they tried to learn from the Japanese Restaurant near the Train Station, they served the Sashimi very very slowly. We barely had 3 rounds of Sashimi, the last round was served very late. Also, They served fried food and food that makes you feel full first. Anyways, I am really disappointed that the Japanese Restaurant I loved has become like this. I hope the owner of the restaurant can read this and improve their quality just like before. Otherwise, I...
Read moreInteresting place. Slightly different style of restaurant. When you are seated they give you an iPad. There are a number of menu items listed with pictures showing each of the items. You select the items tap the iPad to send and get confirmation of the order being entered. This is where it gets interesting. Sometimes the food comes out in a matter of just a couple of minutes. Other times it takes 15 to 20 minutes for your order to arrive. Fair warning to Americans, the night I was there only one person seemed to speak English. The balance of the staff could understand a bit of what I was saying but some of the discussion was lost in translation. This can be a problem since your food is brought out by whichever staff member happens to be walking past the food prep area. At least that's what appeared to be the case. Also, there are several reviews indicating variable and/or extended wait times. I believe this occurs when several people send in their orders simultaneously. At least that seemed to be going on while I was there. I think this would be a much better place for a group of three to four people so that you could order and Sample rather than having to eat an entire order of sushi. They frown on uneaten food and charge a nominal fee per piece if you leave un eaten food,...
Read moreIt's a rare circumstance when a restaurant is so remarkably disappointing that you feel obliged to write a review, so as to warn future victims of this atrocity of a sushi restaurant. My colleagues and I decided to stop here for a lunch break and were thoroughly disappointed. To be frank, disgusted is more appropriate of a term to describe it.
Food: Nauseating. Slimy. Unpalatable. Fishy AF. Greasy. Oily. Deeply unsettling. Almost no fish in the sushi "rolls" and extremely disproportionate fish-to-rice ratio in the nigiri orders. Spicy mayo was alright and perhaps the only saving grace, but I don't think this helps their case...
Service: I'm sure the people who work here are lovely, but perhaps not while on the job. We had no designated "waiter/waitress" and relied on whoever's attention we could manage to grab for any service whatsoever. One of them frequently ignored our verbal requests while another seemed disgruntled at even the most basic request. They never tended to our table and only brought us our complete order after multiple, repeated asks. As I sit here, we have waited over 20 minutes for our final order of ice cream, which involves zero preparation.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this place...
