Went to Begbies for the 1st time. Food was fine, it was nothing out of the ordinary. Our server was new and training - she was great (recommended the pancakes, told us how good all the food was). However the server training her is the reason we will not be back. She was so negative, the table behind us wanted to substitute something for french toast and she flat out told them no, then she tells them extra bacon is $5 for 2 or $9 for for 4 and when they declined she says "that's normally what the answer is". She let them know that's the problem with the restaurant is that it's locally owned, they can do whatever they want and charge whatever they want. She also continued to tell them she took over the table because the other lady (in training) was slow. Then she goes on about how she moved back here and hates Quesnel (we are not from Quesnel and we overheard the other table had people from the USA). Then she tells the other table that she is going on her break and she normally tells her table so customers aren't looking for her while she eats. It was a very weird breakfast experience, the place was very quiet and we could overhear...
Read moreWhile the atmosphere and design of Begbie's is attractive and I truly enjoyed the aesthetic of it, the food didn't stand up to expected standards given others' stellar reviews of the food, especially the pizza. I ordered a Seafood Fettuccine and a Mudslide vodka drink. Starting with the Fettuccine, upon taking the first bite, the temperature of the food ranged from cold to room temperature, giving the impression it sat on a shelf for a couple minutes before making it to me while I was the only person at my table. Besides the Fettuccine being on the colder side, it tasted fine and the sauce used was not bad at all. For the Mudslide, the serving size was lovely and was not buried in ice so I could get more than three sips in before it was empty. However, while the Mudslide was tasty, it tasted more like a Milkslide, evident by the overuse of milk in my drink. Overall, this restaurant has a lovely aesthetic and is very warm and welcoming, but in my experience with food and drink, Begbie's has some improvements...
